Passengers aboard an Alaska Airlines plane that made an emergency landing after a fuselage panel blew off this year have recently started receiving letters from the FBI identifying them as possible victims of a crime.

The letters are a sign that the criminal investigation that the Justice Department has opened into Boeing, the manufacturer of the 737 Max 9 jet, is being stepped up.

“As a victim specialist in the Seattle Division, I am contacting you because we have identified you as a possible victim of a crime,” reads the letter from the FBI Seattle office, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times. The letter states that the incident is the subject of a criminal FBI investigation, but adds that such investigations can take a long time and that “for several reasons we cannot tell you about their progress at this time.”

The panel on the flight, which was carrying 171 passengers and six crew members, exploded at an altitude of 16,000 feet shortly after the plane left the Portland, Oregon, airport in early January. The National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report that the panel, known as a door plug and used to fill the space that would have been occupied by an emergency exit door if the plane had more seats, was missing four bolts intended to secure it to make. in situ.

Steve Bernd, a spokesman for the FBI’s Seattle office, declined to comment on the criminal investigation. Boeing also declined to comment. The company has previously stated that it would cooperate in the investigation.

Mark Lindquist, an attorney for some of the passengers, said his clients welcomed the investigation. “We want answers, accountability and safer Boeing planes,” he said. “The DOJ is bringing a big hammer down on these targets.”

The Wall Street Journal previously reported that investigators had contacted some passengers and crew members.

The investigation is one of a growing number of problems for Boeing, including a recent Federal Aviation Administration audit that found problems in the production process. The Justice Department is also investigating a 2021 settlement of a criminal charge against the company stemming from fatal crashes involving its Max 8 planes. In that case, the department had agreed to drop the levy in exchange for Boeing paying more than $2.5 billion, most of it in the form of compensation to customers.

Federal investigators said they were still trying to determine the names of the employees who worked on the door plug that blew out. Boeing told members of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and the National Transportation Safety Board that it could not find any records containing the information.

A Melbourne influencer and former Love Island star endured a terrifying ordeal at the airport this weekend when a driver tried to rip her off mid-journey.

Emily Ward, 26, said she had just landed at Tullamarine Airport and was on her way to visit her family when the driver canceled her trip and asked for a ‘bank transfer’.

Ward detailed the ordeal in a TikTok video, saying she “freaked out” when he tried to drive away with her still in the car when they weren’t being “tracked” by the app.

“The car starts to drive away and then I get a notification on my phone saying the driver has canceled and I’m being paired with another driver,” she said.

‘I’ll immediately mark this with [the driver] and I said, “Hey, this is what happens, maybe you accidentally hit cancel.” This is true [the scam] begins.’

Emily went on to say that the driver said to her: ‘It must be an error with the app, I just confirmed your address, did you perhaps press something?’

“He keeps insisting that it’s something I must have done or that the app made a mistake, but actually there’s a problem,” she explained.

“This is where I’m really starting to get scared because right now all my belongings are in this man’s car.

“I’m strapped into this man’s car as he tries to slowly drive it out of the airport pick-up area. I’m alone and now my ride isn’t being tracked.’

Ward, 26, said she had just landed at Tullamarine Airport and was on her way to visit her family when the driver canceled her trip and asked for a ‘bank transfer’.

Emily said the driver then asked her to “transfer the fare to him” because she was “already in his car.”

Despite his insistence that it would be ‘easier’ to simply continue with the journey, Emily demanded to be let out of the vehicle with her belongings.

‘As a woman on my own, I start to panic in such a situation. You get a gut feeling that something is wrong,” she said.

The driver relented after a few minutes of arguing and ‘guilt feelings’, but Emily was shocked to see him rip off another unsuspecting passenger after her.

Emily said when she realized someone else was being scammed by the driver, she reported a police officer who told the driver to leave without picking up a passenger.

At that point, Emily suspected she knew what the driver was trying to do, and said he might want to avoid the ride-sharing fee and pocket the entire fare.

“I feel guilty because I just ruined this guy’s scam because he’s trying to make more money for himself, but at the same time it’s so illegal and so dangerous,” Emily said.

‘He would absolutely lose his license. “I’m still considering reporting him because he would lose his driver’s license and his entire source of income.”

What does a trip on one of America’s cheapest cruises look like?

Well, in an attempt to quell people’s intrigues, YouTuber Lucas Cruikshank booked a two night trip with Margaritaville At Sea from Miami to the Bahamas.

Rates on the cruise line – which has a ‘poor’ to ‘average’ rating on Tripadvisor – start from just $25 per person per night, as there are several ‘buy one, get one free’ offers throughout the year.

Lucas paid $200 for himself and his friend Jacob for a two-night trip, but he said once additional fees were added, it came to $400, so $100 per person per night.

The avid traveler opted for an ocean view room, which bumped up the price, and he also bought himself an unlimited soft drink package.

From start to finish, Lucas documented his budget voyage at sea, which also marked his very first cruise.

For starters, he said he didn’t know what to expect and found the scathing online reviews a bit off-putting.

He explains: ‘Margaritaville at Sea Paradise has pretty low reviews, but we all know people with one-star reviews are dramatic.

“Like people are constantly in a bad mood and posting it on these review websites, so I need to test if this ship actually deserves the low rating it has.”

He said a review he found equated the ship – which was built in 1991 – to a “floating Super 8 hotel,” while others had said it “smelled like poop.”

But once Lucas and Jacob board the ship, they seem pleasantly surprised by what they have found.

Lucas told viewers, “WI got on board and I was impressed.

‘Even though this ship is more than thirty years old, they recreated it. Maybe we’ll see some cracks in that later, but for the most part I was okay with it.”

After boarding the ship, the duo ventured out for lunch. Despite many reviewers ‘despising’ the food, Lucas said the offering was good.

Instead of the buffet he opted for a ham panini, some pigs in a blanket and an apple. His only complaint was that there was no ketchup for his pigs in a blanket and he had to make do with mustard.

On what the buffet offering was like, he added: “Yes, the buffet was fine. I mean, it wasn’t Michelin star food… But [I got] BOGO… like why are you complaining!

‘I’ve been to gross buffets, this wasn’t one of them. It looked like a mediocre buffet.’

On the beverage side, Jacob noted that his water tasted like chlorine, but said it was “fine” and drinkable.

Once their cabin was ready, the two cruise-goers went down to check it out and were pleased with what they found.

Lucas’ only complaint was that the entrees were “tasty” but small and when they tried to order an additional dish, the server warned that another portion would be charged $8

Lucas exclaimed, “Oh my god, it’s bigger than I expected. Naturally, we paid for an ocean display.’

They filmed a short tour of the bathroom, highlighting the artificial marble countertop and the ‘cozy’ walk-in shower.

While reviewers said the rooms were outdated and in need of renovation, and leaky portlights were another complaint, Lucas and Jacob didn’t find much wrong with their cabin.

Their only complaints included a stray hair on the bedside table and several damaged cabinets.

Another area the ship reviewers complained about was the public toilets.

Lucas said people were grumbling about the doors being stuck, not locking and that it was “a mess.”

Although he had no problems with the public toilets, Jacob was at one point locked in a stall, but he eventually escaped.

Of all the dishes they tried, Lucas said the pumpkin soup was “bland,” while a bowl of macaroni that looked “yucky” was actually “yummy.”

His only complaint was that the entrees were “tasty” but small and when they tried to order an additional dish, the server warned that another portion would be charged $8.

When they reached Freeport, Bahamas, Lucas and Jacob opted to have a drink on the shore at Senor Frogs.

Back on the ship, they explored the casino, nightclub, bingo hall and hot tub, among other things.

After spending just over 48 hours on America’s cheapest cruise ship, Lucas delivered his verdict.

While some critics of the ship said the “best part of the cruise was getting off,” Lucas said that while he was “excited” to get off, he enjoyed his time at sea.

“I think two days is perfect,” he mused.

Passengers on board a plane that fell from the sky, injuring 50 people, are furious at the way they were treated by the airline after they were given a small meal in compensation.

Multiple emergency vehicles rushed to Auckland International Airport on Monday after a Latam Airlines flight from Sydney to Auckland lost altitude and threw passengers against the ceiling.

The St. John ambulance treated the injured and transported thirteen of them to hospital, while the remaining passengers were given a single McDonald’s cheeseburger while they waited to find out what would happen next.

The ‘traumatized’ travelers on flight LA800, a Boeing 787-9, did not receive a meal again until Tuesday morning.

Thais Iwamoto, 26, from Sydney, said Latam’s lack of support and poor communication is “something I want to talk to them about because it’s not OK.” It’s just not fair.

After being thrown through the plane, with some passengers bouncing off the ceiling, overhead bins and seats, the flight was met by multiple emergency responders and vehicles at Auckland International Airport. The Latam aircraft is shown

“Accidents happen, but the way they treat us is not what it should be,” she told police. New Zealand herald.

Clara Azevedo, a 28-year-old Brisbane woman who was also on the flight, said that although she was not injured herself, she had spent the entire night in a hospital translating for an elderly woman who broke two ribs and left her injured his shoulder and didn’t speak English.

‘We are all traumatized and we had to find strength to help people. But this is not our responsibility, it is Latam’s – but they have done nothing. That is very frustrating,” Ms. Azevedo said.

Another Australian passenger, Jacob Thompson, 33, hit his head in what Latam calls a “strong jolt” while his partner was “thrown down the aisle.”

“We didn’t know if we were going to make the landing,” he said, adding that what happened “didn’t feel like turbulence” and that he had never felt anything like it.

The passengers who were not taken to hospital were taken to a hotel in Auckland around 2am on Tuesday morning.

Breakfast there was the first meal they had since the cheeseburger at the airport.

Ms. Azevedo and the injured woman for whom she spent the night translating must catch the rescheduled flight to Santiago, Chile, the final destination of flight LA800, at 8 p.m. tonight.

She said she is “terrified” and hopes to get something to help her sleep throughout the trip to South America.

As of Tuesday evening, four passengers are being treated at Middlemore Hospital for ‘significant’ injuries.

Latam said the injured passengers were from Brazil, France, Australia, Chile and New Zealand.

A spokesperson said the airline is “working in coordination with the respective authorities to support the investigation into the incident” and that it has “provided food, accommodation and transportation to affected passengers due to the flight cancellation.”

New Zealand’s Transport Accident Investigation Commission said Chile is responsible for investigating the incident as it occurred in international airspace.

A terrified passenger on board a LATAM Airways Boeing jet described experiencing “the worst turbulence you can imagine” after dozens of people were thrown from their seats mid-flight.

The pilot, Lucas Ellwood, said “everyone was terrified” on board the flight from Sydney, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand on Monday, the latest catastrophe that saw Boeing send at least 10 people to hospital.

“There were people wailing everywhere, there were people hurt everywhere,” he told Good Morning America. “Everyone just hit the roof and fell to the ground.”

Others compared the chaotic scenes as reminiscent of something from ‘The Exorcist’ as reports indicate as many as 50 people were injured in the incident.

It is the latest in a series of aircraft malfunctions and in-flight errors involving Boeing jets that have wiped tens of billions off the company’s market value after incidents such as the blowing out of an emergency door from an Alaska Airlines plane in January.

One passenger described enduring “the worst kind of turbulence you can imagine,” while others compared dozens of flying cabins to scenes from The Exorcist.

The exact reason for the massive turbulence is still unclear, with LATAM Airways saying in a statement only that it came after a ‘technical event’.

Passengers reportedly suffered head and neck injuries, as well as several broken bones, and the aircraft said seven passengers and three cabin crew were hospitalized.

Although no one is believed to have been seriously injured, passengers described how the flight went from calm to panic in a flash.

Many had taken off their seat belts as the journey was uneventful, before the journey suddenly dipped and shook with turbulence, sending many flying into the ceiling.

“It was like the worst kind of turbulence you could imagine,” Ellwood said afterward.

Others described it as something out of a ‘horror movie’ and felt like a roller coaster crashing without warning.

Despite the alarming incident, the Boeing 737-9 Dreamliner continued its journey as planned, landing in Auckland approximately 2 hours and 42 minutes after take-off.

LATAM Airways confirmed in a statement that “some passengers and cabin crew were affected,” but did not elaborate on the cause of the incident.

“They received immediate assistance and, if necessary, were evaluated or treated by medical personnel at the airport,” the statement continued.

“LATAM regrets the inconvenience and harm this situation may have caused to its passengers, and reiterates its commitment to safety as a priority within the framework of its operational standards.”

A Boeing spokesperson told DailyMail.com: “We are working to gather more information about the flight and will provide any support our customers need.”

It is the latest in a series of terrifying incidents involving Boeing planes in recent months, including when a plug door panel burst from an Alaska Airlines flight at 16,000 feet on January 5.

In that incident, over Portland, Oregon, passengers’ phones and clothing were ripped off by the force of turbulence as the pilot made an emergency landing after frantically calling air traffic control.

Boeing’s market value fell by as much as $36 billion in the wake of the Alaska Airlines incident, while some passengers have filed a $1 billion lawsuit against the company.

And in the past week, Boeing has suffered a series of repeat accidents, putting its fleet of 737s under increasing criticism once again.

On January 5, an emergency stop door blew off an Alaska Airlines plane at 16,000 feet, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon.

Last Monday, a United Airlines engine caught fire and burst into flames over Texas, with images of passengers showing white-hot flashes pouring out of the plane mid-flight.

The heartbreaking moment forced the pilot to make an emergency landing just minutes into the trip to Fort Myers, Florida.

As passengers saw flames coming from one side of the plane, a crew member admitted, “Ladies and gentlemen, we realized something was happening outside…”

The cause of the incident was bubble wrap stuck in the mechanics, but no injuries were reported.

On Thursday, a wheel fell from another jetliner shortly after takeoff in San Francisco, crushing several vehicles underneath in another near miss that left no injuries.

The 256-pound wheel severely damaged a number of cars in the San Francisco airport parking lot, although fortunately there were no people in the crash zone.

The next day, a United Airlines plane veered off the runway after landing in Houston, forcing an emergency evacuation to the tarmac.

The plane suffered what is believed to have been a form of equipment collapse as it left the runway at George Bush Airport, although the 160 passengers and six crew were not injured.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) also announced this month that it is investigating a separate incident in February in which a Boeing 737 MAX 8 jet suffered a “stuck” rudder pedal.

The NTSB said in a preliminary report on the Feb. 6 flight that the plane taxied to the gate at Newark Airport without incident and that there were no injuries among the 161 passengers and crew.

It reported that the captain said that during the landing rollout, the rudder pedals did not move in response to the ‘normal’ application of foot pressure while attempting to maintain the runway centerline.

Up to 50 people were injured due to a ‘technical problem’ on the Chilean Latam Airlines flight, with multiple emergency workers and vehicles involved in the response.

Passenger Brian Jokat said that two hours into the three-hour flight, “the plane suddenly fell out of the sky.”

“The plane then started to dive and I just thought, ‘Okay, this is it, we’re done,'” he told the Stuff news website.

Mr Jokat said there was no turbulence after the incident and after the flight landed in Auckland the pilot ended up in the back of the plane ‘shocked’.

‘I asked, “What happened?” and he said, ‘My gauges just went out, I lost all my ability to fly the plane.’

Another passenger on the flight, Priscilla Waller-Subritzky, said she was watching a movie when the plane suddenly fell and “a number of passengers and crew were thrown into the roof of the plane.”

“I went into fight mode and just started jumping and helping where I could because the crew was injured so they couldn’t help,” she told the New Zealand herald.

Thirteen patients, one of whom was in a serious condition, were taken to Middlemore Hospital, a St John ambulance spokesman said.

“Our ambulance crews assessed and treated approximately 50 patients, with one patient in a serious condition and the remainder in a moderate to mild condition.

“To date, 13 patients have been transported to Middlemore Hospital by ambulance,” they said in an update issued shortly after 7pm local time.

Previously, the spokesperson said: ‘We were notified at 3.58pm and are currently on scene with four ambulances, two operations managers, a major incident support team vehicle, a command unit and two rapid response vehicles.’

A woman who was on the LA800 Dreamliner service flight said she experienced a “quick little drop” during the flight.

“I was a flight attendant and this is the first time I’ve ever… the whole plane froze,” she said.

An Auckland Airport spokesperson said the emergency services team assisted St John following a request for medical support.

In a statement, Latam Airlines said the flight “had a technical problem during the flight that caused a strong movement,” but the plane landed as planned.

“As a result of the incident, some passengers and cabin crew were affected. They received immediate assistance and, if necessary, were evaluated or treated by medical staff at the airport.

“Latam regrets any inconvenience and harm this situation may have caused to its passengers, and reiterates its commitment to safety as a priority within the framework of its operational standards.”

It was the second incident involving a plane that took off from Sydney International Airport on Monday.

Previously, United Airlines Flight 830 to San Francisco was forced to turn around after a mid-air emergency.

A leak was reportedly discovered on board the Boeing 777-300 aircraft and it landed back in Sydney at 2.34pm, just over two and a half hours en route.

Firefighters met the aircraft on the tarmac.

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia, United Airlines said the plane had been diverted to Sydney ‘due to a maintenance issue’.

“The aircraft landed safely and the passengers disembarked normally at the gate,” the report said.

‘We are offering passengers an overnight stay and rebooking them for San Francisco tomorrow.’

A cruise ship worker has revealed the ultimate mistakes passengers make while on holiday.

Lucy Sotherton, 28, from Birmingham, has been working on cruise ships for nine years, since she was 19.

She recently talked about what life at sea is really like: the good and the bad, and how you could get on the crew’s nerves without even realizing it.

The Brit warned that the most important thing to avoid if you don’t want to be fooled is taking off your shoes.

“Crew members generally make fun of passengers who think it’s acceptable to walk around the cruise ship without shoes,” she admitted. Daily star.

Lucy warned that the most important thing to avoid if you don’t want to be fooled is taking off your shoes.

Lucy revealed: ‘Surprisingly there is always one passenger per cruise who can comfortably walk around the entire cruise ship without shoes.

“They will walk in and out of stores without shoes on, they will even find it appropriate to go to the theater without shoes because they are technically inside.

“Regardless, you must wear your shoes in any area outside your cabin.

“And if you try to walk around on the cruise ship without shoes, the crew members will laugh at you.”

However, it’s not just putting your feet on the ground that causes employees to turn their noses up; being rude is another blunder.

Lucy said: ‘I think the biggest mistake people can make when they’re on a cruise is not being polite to every crew member.

“You don’t know what you need and which crew member can solve your problems and there have been times when a passenger has been incredibly rude to a crew member, which they needed later on during their cruise.”

If you’re nice to the staff, it might even get you some free luxuries.

The 28-year-old said the best way to get free stuff and upgrades is to “make real connections with crew members.”

She added, “And this applies to your cabin. Monitor your waiter and basically every crew member.

“If you are a nice person and have a bond with a crew member, they are more likely to go out of their way for you.

‘That’s why I laugh when passengers are rude to crew members, because they’re only doing themselves a disservice.

“No crew member will go to any lengths for a passenger who is disrespectful and rude.”

The cruise ship employee claims that the worst type of passengers are those who are “determined to be miserable” no matter what you offer them, and that “happy passengers are the best.”

So if you’re heading to the seaside this year, make sure you put a smile on your face and keep your feet under control if you want to make a good impression.

It comes just after a singer who used to work on a cruise ship has revealed the morbid reason why they have ‘free ice cream parties’ on board.

TikTok star Dara Starr Tucker opened up about her experiences with disasters and deaths on cruise ships in a series of videos on the platform, where she has more than 1.1 million followers.

When one commenter noted that there is a correlation between the amount of ice given to passengers and the number of bodies in the morgue, she confirmed that “this is unfortunately often true.”

“When the crew suddenly provides ice cream to the passengers — a free ice cream party — it’s often because more people have died on the ship than there is room for in the morgue,” she said.

Leave fetish clothing at home and always sit on a towel; these are just some of the rules that apply when it comes to nude cruises.

Texas-based travel company Bare Necessities has been operating clothing-optional ship charters since 1990, and over the years has developed a set of rules to ensure that all passengers “enjoy a wonderful, stress-free, clothing-free experience.” ‘

Bare Necessities’ nude cruises were thrust into the spotlight this week when a 67-year-old man opened up about his experiences aboard one of the ships and answered a host of questions from fascinated Reddit users about what life was like aboard the ship is.

During his sensational Q&A, he mentioned several rules put in place to protect passenger privacy – and now DailyMail.com reveals the exact list of strict rules being implemented on board Bare Necessities trips to ensure safety comfort for everyone on board.

For all its excursions, it outlines nine key “rules of decorum,” the first being that all passengers must be dressed “throughout the ship, including balconies,” when the boat is docked at a port or while port authorities are busy. plate.

NINE KEY RULES WHEN IT COMES TO NUDE CRUISING

  • Clothing must be worn in the dining rooms
  • Lingerie, fetish clothing and excessive genital jewelry are not appropriate
  • Always sit with your buttocks bare or wear a piece of clothing
  • No photographs of other passengers may be taken without their express permission
  • No photo zones may be respected
  • Caressing or inappropriate touching is strictly prohibited

Only then can clothing be removed after announcement by the captain or another staff member.

The next rule concerns nudity while dining.

Depending on the ship, the rules regarding clothing and the different restaurants vary.

For example, for one of the excursions on Norwegian Pearl, Bare Necessities tells passengers that the self-serve buffet on the pool deck is a clothing-free area, but that “clothing is required for all meals consumed in the dining areas.”

For those unsure of what to wear, it states: ‘Bathrobes are not permitted in the dining room.

‘If you are unsure about what constitutes appropriate clothing, simply confirm that breasts, buttocks and genitals are fully covered by clothing that is not considered fetish wear or lingerie.’

The next line on the agenda reiterates that “lingerie, fetish wear and excessive genital jewelry are not appropriate at any time.”

For first-timers, the tour company’s next rule outlines a bit of “standard nudist etiquette” that must be “observed everywhere,” meaning they should “always” sit on a towel or a bare-bottomed garment or in a thong. or G string.”

To protect people’s privacy, no photos, videos or electronic images of anyone on the ship can be taken without their “express consent,” regardless of whether they are clothed or naked.

There are also ‘no photo zones’ around the ships’ swimming pools and dance venues, and violators will have their ‘photo capture device’ confiscated if caught breaking this rule.

Bare Necessities emphasizes in its marketing materials that its trips are not sexual and that its main purpose is to “dispel the misconception that travel is anything but natural and beautiful.”

It adds: ‘We have made progress in the acceptance of nude holidays and our wide range of cruise charters is testament to our success.’

As such, it warns guests that “fondling or inappropriate touching of personal body parts or those of another person, overt sexual activity or any form of solicitation of sexual acts is strictly prohibited.”

Finally, the tour company states that “dangerous or abusive behavior will not be tolerated at any time” and that passengers must comply with U.S. federal law regarding the possession or use of illegal substances.

If a passenger fails to adhere to the rules of decorum and etiquette, the company warns that he or she may be dismissed from a cruise without a refund and that transportation will not be provided from the port of disembarkation.

Britain doesn’t have many railway records at the moment, but it does have a line in the West Midlands that lays claim to the title of Europe’s shortest: the Stourbridge branch line.

At just 1.2 km/1287 meters long, it is also Britain’s shortest railway line.

In addition, the service it runs is operated by ‘Pre Metro’ and West Midlands Railway using a pair of rare Class 139 ‘Parry People Movers’.

They are the only Class 139s in service in Great Britain.

The single-car vehicles – the brainchild of light rail pioneer John Parry – are described by Premetro as ‘self-sufficient trams’, powered by a hybrid flywheel and an LPG (liquid petroleum gas) engine.

The website for the line explains that the flywheel allows the shuttle to perform regenerative braking, where the vehicle’s kinetic energy is collected during braking and later reused for acceleration.

The to-and-fro line opened in 1879 and today carries Parry People Mover passengers across it at a speed of 20mph.

The journey between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction takes just three minutes and services depart every 10 minutes.

That’s 1,370 services per week, with two drivers for “safety and excellent customer service,” according to Pre Metro.

The line was originally built to transport goods and people between the Stourbridge canal basin and the mainline railway network at Stourbridge junction, providing a vital link to Worcester, Kidderminster and Birmingham.

Another remarkably short passenger route in Britain is the journey by plane from Papa Westray to Westray in the Scottish archipelago of Orkney, with the flight covering a distance of just 1.7 miles.

It only lasts one minute and 14 seconds.

The shortest railway line in the world is Los Angeles Angels Flight Cable Carwhich is only 298 feet long.

It takes passengers from Hill Street to Grand Avenue.
