Taylor Swift breaks the silence on Travis Kelce’s relationship timeline
Taylor Swift speaks publicly about her relationship with Travis Kelce stole fans’ hearts for the first time since their romance – and she’s not sparing any details.
Swift, 33, opened up TIME about her record-breaking tour, love life and more after she was named the magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year, giving her first major interview in almost four years. When asked to break down the timeline of her and Kelce’s connection, Swift didn’t hesitate.
“This all started when Travis really cutely updated me on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” she teased, referencing a July episode of Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, in which he revealed that he wanted to give Quick a friendship bracelet in one of her Kansas City Eras tour stops.
According to Kelce, 34, the pair wasn’t able to meet at the concert, but Swift confirmed that the pair “started hanging out right afterward.” Sparks were already flying when Swift was spotted playing her first Kansas City Chiefs game in September.
“We actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for because we got to know each other,” she continued. “By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I guess some people think they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to initiate a first date.”
Swift has since appeared at Kelce’s several NFL games, most recently cheering him on at Wisconsin on Sunday, December 3, when the Chiefs faced the Green Bay Packers. Kelce returned the favor by flying to Buenos Aires, Argentina last month to see Swift perform on the international leg of her Eras tour.
“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, that we stand up for each other, that there are other people out there and we don’t care,” Swift told the outlet. ‘The opposite of that is that you have to go to extreme lengths to make sure no one knows you’re seeing someone. And we are just proud of each other.”
Swift’s presence at Kelce’s games is a hot topic among music lovers and sports fans alike, with cameras often rolling to show Swift and her posse – including recently Patrick Mahomes‘ woman, Brittany Mahomes — in the stadium during the broadcast. “I don’t know how they know which suite I’m in,” she admitted, noting that she has “no idea” when the cameras are on her. “I don’t know if I’ll be seen seventeen times or once.”
Although she can’t help her fame, Swift doesn’t want to take Kelce’s attention away. “I’m just here to support Travis,” she said. “I have no idea if too much of me is being shown and I’m going to piss off some dads, Brads and Chads.”
Kelce previously hinted on “New Heights” that the NFL may be “overdoing” its focus on his relationship with Swift, but the league defended its coverage of the couple in an October statement. In the meantime, Swift is enjoying her introduction to the sports world.
