Tributes to respected Mail on Sunday journalist Paul Whyles who sadly died from cancer aged 70

Paul Whyles, a senior and highly respected Mail on Sunday journalist for many years, has died cancer70 years old.

Paul enjoyed an illustrious and award-winning career with local newspapers. He became an editor at the age of 22 and held that position at Oxford and West. London for a decade, before moving to Fleet Street.

He joined the MoS in 1988 and became deputy editor-in-chief and later deputy editor-in-chief.

He then joined the Daily Express, before taking time to gain a degree in English Literature at Oxford.

Paul also lived in Corfu for a number of years and restored a dilapidated building into his home. He eventually returned to the MoS as a senior freelancer.

He is survived by wife Deborah, children Holly, Joseph, Jack and Ben from his first marriage, and stepchildren Sam and Rosie by Deborah, as well as his beloved grandchildren.

David Dillon, editor of The Mail on Sunday, said: ‘Paul was an excellent journalist and charm embodied. He will be greatly missed.”

Paul’s funeral is on June 28 in Bordon, Hampshire.
