The US Central Command said in a statement: “On January 31, Iranian-backed Houthi militants fired an anti-ship missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen towards the Gulf of Aden. The missile was successfully shot down by the USS Carney.

“At 9:10 p.m., the USS Carney engaged and shot down three Iranian UAVs in the area. No injuries or damage were reported.”

The American strikes followed the death of three American soldiers in the event of a drone attack Jordan.

After consultation with top advisors from the White HousePresident Joe Biden responded “yes” to reporters when asked if he had decided how he would respond for Sunday's attack.

He added: “I don't think we need a wider war in the Middle East. That's not what I'm looking for.”

The worrying back and forth between Iran and the US comes after Iran railed against America when they were blamed for the deaths.

Iran has denied any direct involvement in Sunday's attack, but has warned that any response on its territory would cross a red line that would trigger the country to retaliate.

Tehran has also claimed that if an attack occurs anywhere on Iranian territory, they will hit back at US assets in Iranian territory Middle East immediately.

Both countries have reiterated that they have no intention of launching open war, but that any wrong move could drag the two nations into direct conflict.

Joe Biden was taking into account lightning fast naval targets after the death of Sgt William Jerome Rivers, 46, Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, and Specialist Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, recently.

It marked the first American deaths from enemy fire since the start of World War II Israel-Hamas war – and led to a major escalation of the crisis.

Dozens of others were also injured in the strike near the Syrian border, on January 28.

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby has yet to respond to the devastating attacks and said a “layered approach” may be taken.

He told reporters: “It is fair that you expect us to respond in an appropriate manner.

“It's entirely possible that you'll see a multi-layered approach here, not just a single action, but essentially multiple actions.

“The president will do what he needs to do to protect our troops, our facilities and ensure our national security.”
