A TRENDY young woman has jumped on an online craze by trying out a DIY face mask that is supposed to give you glass skin.
She gave an honest review of the budget-friendly skincare method and admitted that it was moisturizing, but it felt like cold snot.
Helen Melon (@itshelenmelon) normally shares food reviews and recipes, but stepped away from her regular content to jump on a viral beauty trend.
In a TikTok videoshe has recreated a DIY face mask that is making waves online, calling it an “easy at-home secret.”
“Let's try the viral flaxseed mask at home for glowing skin. Apparently this is the best all-natural face mask,” she said.
She also wrote in the caption that she “had to try this after seeing SO MUCH hype about it.”
It is popular because of its two natural ingredients: flaxseed and water.
Helen also said that the area around her mouth becomes very dry in winter, so she wanted to test the effectiveness of the mask.
She explained that there is a right and a wrong way to do it and walked viewers through her process.
“You want to boil two cups of water and put half a cup of flaxseed in a pot. I don't have one, so I used a temperature-safe bowl,” she added.

Once the water was boiling, she poured it over it, mixed it, and let it cool in the refrigerator.
Helen later said in a comment that she let it cool for about four to six hours.
“You actually want to do this instead of cooking the flaxseed on the stove as this can burn and destroy the benefits, which are hydration, which reduces redness and puffiness for me,” she said.
As an extra tip, she suggested using a cheesecloth to make it easier to strain the seeds.
According to her, it turned out “very ooey, sticky”, but thinner than expected and reminded her of snail slime.
She said the fact that it was sticky on her face was a “really good sign.”
“It felt like cold snot though, but trust the process,” she added.
In the final step, she let the mask dry for 20 minutes and rinsed it from her face.
“It's super hydrating and my skin absorbed it. I did this two nights in a row and I didn't break out,” she said.
Helen gave her “final verdict” towards the end of the video.
“Overall, it's not as miraculous as people say online, but it does work, and it's great for winter,” she revealed.
Many viewers were already sold on the benefits of the DIY facial slime.
“I do it every night and will never NOT do it,” one person commented.
“I actually boil it on the stove and then let it cool and it works like a charm! I also use it as a gel for my curly hair!” one woman advised.
“I started this yesterday. My skin looked like glass!!” another wrote.
