Who is Princess Anne’s husband, Sir Timothy Laurence?

Sir Timothy Laurence is retired Royal Navy officer.

He was born on March 1, 1955 in Camberwell, London.

Sir Timothy attended New Beacon Prep Sevenoaks School Knows before going to Durham University on a naval scholarship.

While attending university, he studied geography and graduated with a bachelor’s degree Science Upper second class honors degree.

As a student he was editor of the student newspaper and captain of the cricket team.

After completing his studies, Sir Timothy left Durham to train at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

He then spent the next one 40 years in the Navy, rose to vice admiral.

Sir Timothy retired from the Navy in 2010 and began pursuing other interests.

He was chairman of the English heritage Trust was also vice-chairman of the from 2015 to 2022 Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

In December 2023, he was appointed chairman of the Science Museum Group.

When did Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence get married?

Sir Timothy met Princess Anne in 1987.

The couple first crossed paths when Sir Timothy served as equerry to Anne’s mother, the Queen.

Princess Anne was still married to Captain Mark Phillips at the time, but the couple separated in 1989.

At the time of their divorce Buckingham Palace released a statement saying: “Her Royal Highness, the Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips have decided to part ways based on the terms agreed between them.

‘There are no plans for it parting procedure.”

Princess Anne and Captain Phillips eventually divorced in 1992 and on December 12 of that year, she and Sir Timothy tied the knot.

The couple married in a private ceremony at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral.

They had to travel to Scotland to get married as the Church of England did not allow divorced people to remarry churches while their former husband was still alive.

Since 2022, the church has allowed this to happen, but only in “exceptional circumstances”

Sir Timothy did not receive a peerage at the time wedding to Princess Anne, but he was appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 2011.

Since their marriage, the couple has lived together on the Gatcombe Park estate Gloucestershire.

In 1989, a friend of Timothy’s told me People magazine that Sir Timothy “was thinking constantly about Princess Anne soon after their first meeting”.

The friend added: “Anne has been treating him as her closest confidante for quite some time.

“It’s clear that Tim and the princess were physically attracted to each other, but their friendship goes deeper than that.

“Tim filled a loneliness in her life and gave her a shoulder to cry on when she needed someone to tell her problems.”

The Queen’s last equerry before her died on September 8, 2022was Major Tom White, a Royal Marines commando commissioned in 2020.
