A woman has died and more than 130 people are injured after eating ‘prasad’ at temples in Benaluru rural district, Hoskote. The police suspect that the cause is food poisoning.
New Delhi: A tragic incident in Karnataka has left a woman dead and more than 130 people sick. The most common reason for this is ‘prasad’ in a temple, which was consumed by everyone. According to the police officials, special programs were organized on Sunday on account of Hanuman Jayanti at several prominent temples in Hoskote. After the programs, ‘prasad’ was consumed by the people and subsequently several people complained of vomiting and were also reportedly hospitalized. Woman Dies After Allegedly Consuming ‘Prasad’
As mentioned earlier, the devotees apparently fell ill after eating ‘prasad’, and among them was a 60-year-old woman who succumbed to her illness. Preliminary investigations reveal that this woman, identified as Siddagangamma, complained of the same symptoms, was admitted to hospital and despite medical attention, her condition deteriorated and she died. A resident of Kaveri Nagar, Hoskote, Siddagangamma and her husband Shibanna had brought the ‘prasad’ from the temple and both fell ill.
Health authorities are monitoring the situation
The situation is currently being closely monitored by health authorities as 135 people have fallen ill. Dr. Umesh, the medical officer of Hoskote Taluk, said, “Soon after receiving information, we visited all the temples to collect the prasad samples but we could not get them. So far, 135 people have fallen ill and one death has been reported. We have arranged more beds and kept ambulances ready in case more patients arrive.” A complaint was filed with the police and ten people out of 135 were fired; an update on this has been given by M. Ramesh, Sub-Inspector of Hoskote Police: “We are collecting information from patients… from which temple they consumed prasad.”
