BRITS are prepared for a big change to Amazon Prime next week as an additional new fee is introduced.

The tech giant's Prime Video platform is following in the footsteps of Disney+ and Netflix by introducing ads.

Viewers will have to pay an extra £2.99 every month if they don't want adverts to interrupt their favorite shows and films.

Amazon already brought them across the pond last week and it didn't go down well at all with American users.

“Amazon prime video now makes me pay $3 a month ON TOP of my prime subscription to go ad-free?!” wrote one frustrated subscriber to X, formerly known as Twitter.

'Are you joking? Done with prime.”

A second wrote: “That's it. I'm done with Amazon. The whole point of streaming services was to do the opposite of cable.”

A third shouted: “Time to cancel. What good is Prime if they keep taking away features I expect?”

The secret trick to saving money on Amazon Prime

There is a little-known trick that allows you to avoid the ads without paying for them.

However, it is only useful for people who subscribe to Prime just to watch TV.

Your regular Prime subscription covers everything from video, deliveries, and even storage to backing up your photos.

But did you know that there is a cheaper package that only gives you access to Prime Video? So if you don't need or want Amazon delivery, it's worth considering.

It costs £5.99 per month – £3 cheaper than the full £8.99 Amazon Prime subscription.

The ad-free cost is £2.99 on top of that, so you're essentially paying the same amount as before.

Fewer benefits, but one way you can avoid the ads without paying more.

The ads will come into action from Monday (February 5).

Amazon says this move will allow the company to “continue to invest in compelling content and continue to increase that investment over a long period of time.”

The company also claims that it has “significantly fewer ads” than regular TV channels and other streaming providers.

Disney+ and Netflix have both introduced advertising on their platforms, albeit in the form of different subscription levels rather than a simple on-or-off fee.

The change appears to be paying off for Netflix, which reported that it had 15 million ad-supported monthly active users in November.

In total, the company added 13.1 million subscribers between October and December, bringing the total to 260 million.
