Anne Hathaway feels ‘lucky’ her ‘Barbie’ movie wasn’t made

Anne Hathaway feels “lucky” that she Barbie film was never made, paving the way for director by Greta Gerwig blockbuster movie.

“What’s so exciting about what Greta and Margot [Robbie] and that phenomenal team [did] is a hit,” Hathaway, 41, explained on a Monday, Dec. 11 episode of the “Happy sad confused” podcast. “The rose caused the entire world to reach this level of ecstasy. Now imagine that version… so much energy, so much anticipation, so much emotion… but it’s not the right version. I actually consider it as a moment of happiness [it didn’t get made.]”

The diary of a princess actress would play the lead role in filmmaker Althea Jones’ version of Barbie in June 2018, but the project was scrapped. Robbie, 33, later scored the rights to bring Mattel’s iconic doll to the big screen and enlisted Gerwig, 40, to find the right story.

Later in the interview, Hathaway continued to rave about Robbie and how great her role was in the film. The Australian native not only starred in Barbie, but also co-produced the project with Lucky Chap Productions.

“Margot is sublime. What she does as a creative person and producer is so exciting and inspiring,” she noted. ‘The mythical giants with which they fell [Barbie] who have perpetuated certain stories that have not created opportunities for so many people… they have gone right through them. As a moviegoer and as a woman in Hollywood since I was a child, I am excited about the development.”

Hathway went on to say that she feels like Gerwig and Robbie’s version Barbie was ultimately ‘the best possible’.

“If I believed that the version I was attached to could have done that, I might feel differently about it,” Hathaway added. “It’s easy to be excited and happy [for them]. I love watching women kill it. To do it so well, so unmistakably that they actually had to write new records… come on! I think it will probably make things better.”

Although Hathway didn’t make it to Gerwig’s version Barbieshe believes that the ‘right role finds the right person’.

“Sometimes it’s you and sometimes it’s not,” she added. “If it doesn’t happen, trust deeper and move on… it may sound corny, but you really have to remain grateful.”

from Gerwig Barbie arrived in theaters in July and earned an estimated $155 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend. The film has since earned over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office.

In July, Gerwig admitted she was blown away by it Barbies good luck.

“I wanted to make something anarchic, wild, funny and cathartic, and the idea that it will actually be received that way is quite extraordinary,” she told the BBC. New York Times. “I think it was some ripple in the universe that made this possible. I am so grateful. I’m so surprised. I’m at a loss for words, really… it was amazing to walk around and see people in pink. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine something like this.”
