It will be available from 8am to 12pm in all 205 Asda cafes.

There are no eligibility criteria and all you have to do is ask for the deal at the counter.

You can find your nearest branch using the store locator on the Asda website.

Shoppers have taken to social media to praise the initiative, which is being run in partnership with Quaker.

One shopper wrote on Facebook: “Well done Asda. It's a great idea. Lots of people will be very grateful.”

Another added: “What a great idea, lovely for young people to get a hot breakfast.”

A third wrote: “Well done Asda for looking after your community and customers.”

It's not the first time Asda has offered a deal to help customers struggling with the rising cost of living.

Shoppers aged 60 and over can also get hot soup and a sandwich with unlimited tea and coffee for £1 from today until the end of the month.

Asda has also made its Kids Eat for £1 meal offer permanent across all cafes.

Baby food is also available as part of the initiative, with little ones able to get a free pouch of Ella's Kitchen baby food at their local Asda cafe.

Select Asda stores are also running a “Community Cuppa” campaign in cafes.

It is aimed at community groups that would otherwise struggle to meet due to rental costs or high energy costs.

Places are available on weekdays from 2pm to 6pm and all community group members who visit will receive a free hot drink.

Asda isn't the only supermarket committed to helping pensioners during the cost of living crisis.

A child under 16 can eat free in Morrisons cafes when you purchase an adult meal worth at least £4.99.

A children's meal consists of a piece of fruit and Tropicana children's orange juice, apple drink or bottle of water. Morrisons is rolling out the scheme nationally.

Sainsbury's launched a “Feed your family for a fiver” campaign. On the Sainsbury's website you'll find cheap recipes that can feed a family of four for less than £5.

Waitrose, in partnership with Caffè Nero, has a hot drinks offer for members of the myWaitrose loyalty programme.

You must bring your own cup and make a purchase, but there is no minimum spend to get your free drink.
