Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha Ceremony: Bengal's Visva-Bharati University declares half-day holiday on January 22

Calcutta: On the occasion of the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the iconic Visva-Bharati University at Bolpur-Santiniketan in Birbhum district of West Bengal declared a half-day holiday for the students, teachers and staff members on Monday, January 22. 2024. In the notification, the university authorities have clearly stated that the half-day holiday is for the “celebration of Ram Lalla's Pran Pratishtha at Ayodhya”. “This is to inform all concerned that the University in all its Bhavanas/Vibhagas/Departments/Administrative Offices/Sections etc., except those providing emergency services, will remain closed for half a day on January 22 till 2.30 p.m. o'clock. 2024 for the celebration of Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha in Ayodhya as per the notification issued by Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, Govt. of India vide OMF No. 12/7/2023-JCA dated January 18, 2024,” reads the official notification.

In all other central universities, the president of the country is the chancellor. The iconic Visva-Bharati University was founded by Rabindranath Tagore to propagate the concept of outdoor education.

It was declared a central university and an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament in May 1951. Legendary Indian actor Balraj Sahani was an English teacher at this iconic university. Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen served as the university's second vice chancellor from 1953 to 1954.
