Sale of meat prohibited along the routes established for Kanwar Yatra

The government of Uttar Pradesh has decided to ban the open air sale of meat along the routes set for the Kanwar Yatra, which will start on July 4.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave the directions in this regard as he chaired a review meeting with senior officials including police commissioners, division commissioners, district magistrates and superintendents of police ahead of the upcoming festival season, an official statement on Tuesday said.

Adityanath said that due to “Adhimas” (extra month), Shravan will last two months this year. The festivals of Shravani Shivratri, Nagpanchami and Rakshabandhan will be celebrated during this period, he said.

“The traditional Kanwar Yatra takes place in the holy month of Shravan from July 4th. Before that, Bakri Eid is celebrated on June 29. This time is sensitive from a law and order point of view. So we have to be constantly alert and careful.” he said.

“Respecting the faith of devotees, meat should not be sold in the open on the Kanwar route. The route must remain clean and disinfected. Provisions must be made for street lighting. Since the weather is warm, provisions for drinking water must also be made,” said the CM.

According to the statement, Adityanath has asked the officials to install CCTV cameras on the yatra route and deploy divers as well. The places for setting up Kanwar camps should be marked in advance so that traffic is not hindered, he ordered.

The chief minister also instructed officials to ensure that the noise level of DJ, music, etc. used during the Kanwar procession is up to prescribed standards. “Give permission to the organizers of the event. But make sure everyone follows the rules and regulations,” he said.
