New Delhi: Shakib al Hasan-led Bangladesh will take on Kusal Mendis’ Sri Lanka in Match 38 of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on November 6. The Bangladesh team canceled their practice session in the capital due to high air pollution.

“We actually had a training today, but due to the deteriorating conditions we did not take advantage of that risk. We have two more days of training. Some of us developed a cough, so there is a risk factor. We don’t want to get sick. We don’t know if things will improve, but we have training tomorrow. We want all players to be fit for the important match on November 6,” Mahmud said on Friday.

Shakib and Company’s training on Saturday is scheduled in the evening, while Sunday’s session starts at 2 p.m. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed concern over deteriorating air quality in Mumbai and the rest of the country ahead of India’s World Cup match against Sri Lanka and said everyone must ensure that future generations live in India “without any fear” can live. On the same day, the BCCI said it would not allow fireworks for the remaining games in Mumbai and Delhi due to deteriorating air quality.

Following the ignominious defeat to India by a whopping 302 runs on Thursday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has called for an urgent and comprehensive explanation from the entire coaching staff and selectors.

After pulling out all the stops at just 50 runs in the 2023 Asia Cup final, Sri Lanka again found themselves at 55 against India on Thursday. With just two wins in seven matches, Sri Lanka are eighth on the points table, with their hopes of reaching the semi-finals all but over.

“SLC has expressed its deep concern and disappointment over the performance of the Sri Lanka National Team in the ongoing 2023 World Cup, especially the disappointing loss to India yesterday,” SLC said in a statement.

“The 2023 World Cup is a prestigious event and the achievements of the Sri Lanka national team are a source of immense pride for the country and cricket fans around the world. However, the recent overall performances and shocking defeats have raised significant questions about the team’s preparation, strategies and performance,” cricket’s governing body asked.

SLC said the management has never interfered with the hired professional staff to perform their duties and responsibilities as per the standards and regulations.

“However, SLC firmly believes in accountability, transparency and the importance of addressing issues promptly. The call for explanations from the entire coaching staff is aimed at understanding the reasons behind the team’s disappointing performance and identifying areas for improvement.”
