Delaware man charged with driving under the influence after crashing into Biden’s motorcade

A man who crashed his sedan into a Secret Service vehicle protecting President Biden’s motorcade Sunday evening was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, a Wilmington, Del., police spokesman said. Monday.

The spokesman, David Karas, said James Cooper, 46, of Wilmington, crashed into a Secret Service SUV as Mr. Biden was leaving an event at his campaign headquarters in downtown Wilmington. No one was injured in the accident, Mr Karas said.

The president was having dinner with members of his campaign staff and discussing his polling with reporters when a silver sedan with Delaware license plates crashed into the SUV just after 8 p.m.

Photographers captured the moment, with Mr Biden turning to look at the accident and appearing surprised before officers led him back into his motorcade.

Authorities surrounded the sedan and pointed guns at the driver before he surrendered, reporters in the White House press pool said.

Mr Cooper was charged with drink driving and inattentive driving.
