One of the London's most infamous gangstersShe later became a public face and capitalized on her reputation by talking about her crimes.

She is now a 75-year-old great-grandmother and lives a much quieter life than the one in which she led armed robberies.

But she has some infamous stories to tell, and her latest book 'Life Inside' details encounters behind bars with some of the country's worst female offenders.

In 1985, Linda Calvey was found guilty of armed robbery and sentenced to seven years in prison.

And during her first stint behind bars, she came face to face with one of the Moorish Killers. Myra Hindley.

Together with Ian BradyHindley had brutally murdered five children between 1963 and 1965, four of whom were sexually abused.

After moving from HMP Holloway to HMP Cookham Wood in 1987, Calvey got a job in the library.

When she went inside to do her laundry for the first time, convicted killer Calvey claims she punched Hindley, reports the mail.

In an extract from her new book, Calvey said: 'I walk into the laundry. Someone is singing inside. It's a cheerful tune.

“I look over and I see a woman wearing dark red her, so unlike the brassy blonde in her police mugshot. I see her thin, high cheekbones and sallow skin.

'She's unmistakable. Myra Hindley looks at me. She stops singing. I keep watching, unable to believe my eyes. I feel a wave of pure anger.'

A furious Calvey said: “'You f******' bitch! How can you sing when you've murdered innocent children?' Before I can stop myself, my arm shoots out and I punch her in the face.

'Myra stiffens and puts her hand on her cheek. Neither of us say anything for a moment. “That's why you're going back to Holloway!” she says.”

Calvey described Hindley's stare as “unnerving and very intense” and said she spent the rest of the day expecting to be taken to the prison governor – but that never happened.

Instead, the vicious murderer Hindley carried on as if nothing had happened.

How can you sing when you have murdered innocent children?”

Calvey was swept up in a life of crime after her first husband Mickey Calvey was shot by a police officer during a botched robbery in 1978.

Initial, Calvey was only her husband's getaway driver, but eventually she started handling guns herself during the robberies.

The criminal and convicted killer said stepping up and taking on his role in the gang was the “natural progression”.

She was first convicted of armed robbery in 1986.

Just 18 months after being released on parole for her sentence, Calvey paid criminal associate Daniel Reece £10,000 to kill her lover, Ronnie Cook.

However, Reece did not go through with the crime, prompting Calvey himself to shoot Cook.

For this, she was sentenced to 18 years in prison in November 1991.

Calvey was for some time Britain's longest-serving female prisoner.

MARRIAGE PROPOSALS

Linda previously told how she was asked to marry by the gang boss Reggie Kray and caged armed robber Charles Bronson.

She said: “Reggie proposed to me over the phone. He called me twice a week and I received bouquets of flowers from him.

“I said it wasn't good for either of us, and actually thought it wouldn't be good for me as I'd still be sitting there right now if I was Mrs Kray.”

Reggie died in 2000 at the age of 66, five years after twin brother Ronnie died.

Of Bronson, Calvey said, “He's asked me to marry him so many times… but he's a serious proposer.”

He affectionately called her 'The Black Rose.'

After her release from prison, Calvey found love again with retired businessman George Ceasar and they married five years later.

But in 2015 he was diagnosed with twelve tumors and died within a month.
