Some plants can help purify the air around them, in some cases this is done by absorbing moisture such as the Snake Plant.

B&M sells an £8 snake plant, which is great for purifying the air and can help against mould.

The snake plant, also called Sansevieria, is a very easy plant to maintain and therefore very suitable for beginners.

Snake plants can be placed anywhere in the home as they tolerate both shade and direct sunlight.

They do not need to be watered often as they absorb excess moisture around them, especially when it is damp.

How can I save money at B&M?

The B&M barcode scanner app allows you to discover discounted items before the staff has even marked them down.

The scanner is located in the B&M Stores mobile app, which can be downloaded for free to your smartphone.

Shoppers can download it from the App Store or Google Play.

Once you download the app, the “scan” feature allows you to scan barcodes of any item in the store to see if an item has been reduced in size.

Bargain hunters say some items are being offered for £1, 50p or even 10p via the app.

Shoppers should also look for products with a white discount sticker on them.

This means that a certain amount is deducted from the price stated on the label.

At the end of the season it is cheaper to buy products.

Also be friendly to the staff, they can tell you when the sale starts, or if there are any bargains – so you get the best stuff.

If you can't get your hands on the B&M Factory, B&Q is selling one for a little more at £12, and it got rave reviews online.

One customer said: “A very healthy and low maintenance plant. Great value for money.”

Another said: “Great plant for any room in the house. Helps purify the air in your home, making it both functional and aesthetically pleasing.”

“I bought this for my bathroom and it blooms, unlike other plants!” someone else claimed.

Homebase also has the slightly smaller Snake Plant on offer for £10.

If you're looking for something even cheaper, Homebase has a Peace Lily, also known as the Spathiphyllum, for £5, which is also great for tackling excess moisture.

Cheaper ways to tackle the problem

If you don't want to buy a plant, there are a few other ways to tackle mold in your home.

B&M sells a £1.40 mold spray that can stop mould.

Or you can tackle the problem at the source. Mold is often caused by excess moisture in an enclosed space, so there are things you can do to prevent it from forming.

One of the easiest ways to prevent mold buildup is to open your windows every day to let in fresh air and keep the doors open between rooms.

Ensuring that air circulates continuously throughout your home will reduce condensation so mold cannot grow.

You should also open the cabinet doors regularly to let in fresh air and ensure mold isn't growing in the cabinet.

Other things that can help include not letting your clothes dry on radiators and always cooking with ventilation.

What to do in extreme cases of mold and moisture

In extreme cases of moisture and mold, it is best to keep windows open to allow airflow. Consider using an anti-fungal treatment to address the problem.

You can call in an expert and if you are renting, talk to your landlord to resolve the problem.
