BMX star Pat Casey died aged 29 after being thrown off his bike in a horror crash

American BMX star and three-time X-Games medalist Pat Casey has died in a motorcycle accident at the age of 29.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at Slayground Motocross Park in Ramona, California, after he lost control and was subsequently thrown from his bike. according to CBS8.

Casey was reportedly driving with friends when the tragedy happened. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics spending 55 minutes trying to save his life, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Office.

According to the San Diego Union TribuneCalifornia Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber said Casey missed landing after performing a jump.

The investigation into the death is still ongoing. The 29-year-old was a prominent figure in the BMX world, winning gold at the 2021 X-Games.

Casey is survived by his wife, Chase, and his two young children, Reid and Taytum. The Caseys have a house in Riverside, CA with a driveway and dirt road, used for his famous Drem Yard videos.

X-Games posted a photo of Casey and paid a touching tribute on his Instagram on Wednesday.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Pat Casey and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children, parents and siblings,” the statement read.

“A true legend in the action sports community, Pat will always remain a member of the X Games family and be an inspiration to everyone’s lives he touched.”

The motocross world has expressed its grief over Casey’s passing, including six-time X-Games gold medalist Kyle Baldock.

‘I can’t believe I’m writing this, today we lost an icon! Pat, thank you for blessing us all with your kind and loving personality,” he wrote on Instagram.

“You’re the toughest person I’ve ever met, we’ve been friends since ASA days, which is about 10 years ago, and you’ve always inspired me to go harder. We will all miss you so much it doesn’t seem real.

‘Your [sic] tough as they come bro. I love you bro and my thoughts are with all your family and friends. Rest in peace Pat.’

Fellow rider TJ Lavin also paid tribute to his late friend on Instagram on Wednesday.

“The world lost one of the meanest it’s ever done. I am so sorry for his wife and children. @patcaseybmx will forever be remembered for the down to earth sweetheart of a man he was.”

Two-time X-Games medalist Anthony Napolitan said Casey was “determined to be a good father, determined to be a good biker” during a mark on the old BMX competitor.

“If the kids could take one thing from Pat, it would be to live each day like it’s your last — and I think Reid got that idea,” Chase said in the 2020 feature.

In the same mini-documentary, Casey said; “all my kids need to know is to enjoy your life. You only have one, enjoy it.’

a GoFundMe page was set up for the Casey family to “help them meet their necessities while they focus on going through the steps with their family.”

At the time of writing, $24,675 has been raised after an initial goal of $5,000 was set.
