On Monday evening, Charlie went out with friends before catching a taxi to his home in Brompton.

But officers believe that instead of going home immediately, he took a walk into Chatham town center between 12.10am and 2.40am.

Kent Police said the 25-year-old may have ‘accidentally’ entered an unknown car.

It is in that car where he was allegedly “attacked by the driver and suffered facial injuries,” police added.

Detective Sergeant Karen Caulfield added: “Although we have no specific information about where Charlie went between 12.10am and 2.40am, he had a telephone conversation before his death which indicated he may have been the victim of an attack in the city.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen Charlie walking in the Gillingham and Chatham areas during these times.

“We would especially like to hear from anyone who may have seen him at a fast food restaurant or involved in an altercation in or near a car.”

Charlie’s mother, Victoria Brown, also pleaded with those who have seen Charlie or can offer any information “no matter how small” to contact Kent Police.
