Mizoram Assembly Election 2023: The date for counting of votes for the Mizoram Assembly elections has been changed to December 4. Earlier, counting of votes for all five states would take place on December 3 (Sunday).

An official notification in this regard was issued by the Election Commission of India on Friday. According to the poll panel, the decision to revise the counting date was taken after several protests were received from various parts of the state to reschedule the day of counting of votes.

“The Commission has received several representations from various quarters requesting that the census date be changed from December 3, 2023 (Sunday) to another weekday on the grounds that December 3, 2023 being a Sunday has special significance for the people of Mizoram “, said a spokesperson. The election commission announced this in an official statement on Friday.

Earlier, counting of votes for the Mizoram polls was scheduled to take place on December 3 along with four other states.

“The Commission, after considering these concerns, has decided to revise the date of counting for the general elections to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly from December 3, 2023 (Sunday) to December 4, 2023 (Monday),” it added to it.

Mizoram Assembly Election 2023

Mizoram went to the polls for the 40-seat Legislative Assembly in a single phase on November 7. The elections in the northeastern state were peaceful – albeit under tight security – with a turnout of 80 percent. According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Mizoram witnessed a turnout of 81.25 percent of women voters and 80.04 percent of male voters.

As far as the exit polls are concerned, many have predicted the possibility of a hung house in the state, with the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) locked in a close battle with main rivals Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and neither party with a convincing result emerges. clear majority.

This could make the BJP and Congress – which have little influence in the northeastern state – kingmakers, if they decide to join either of the two main regional parties to form a coalition government in Mizoram.

The elections in the five states took place between November 7 and 30 and the counting of votes will take place on December 3.
