The With office warns that “winter showers” are on the way, with temperatures dropping to a chilly 5C.

Forecasters predict that rain, sleet, hail and snow could hit the country.

Concerns about heavy rainfall have led to the Environment Agency issuing 11 flood warnings and 78 warnings in the past 24 hours.

It is predicted that much of the country will experience a downpour and the river banks will burst.

Local flooding is “likely” in parts of southern England over the next five days.

Travel disruptions are likely while roads and properties may flood.

As we get closer to the weekend, the white stuff is expected to fall.

Parts of Scotland will be covered Thursday around 10:30 p.m., the weather service says.

A Met Office spokesperson told The Sun: ‘We are likely to see a mix of sunshine and stormy showers this weekend, with some of these showers being a wintry mix of rain, sleet, hail and snow.

“Any snowfall will generally be confined to higher elevations in the north, while lower levels will see a mix of rain, sleet and hail.

“Any snow will most likely be confined to high ground in Scotland and possibly to high ground in the far north of England.

“The main consequences for most people will be that it will feel much colder than it does now, with a return of some night frosts.”

Rain showers will break out eastwards in central areas during the afternoon. Largely dry elsewhere with some showers in the far north. Another fairly warm day in the southeast.

This evening

Rain and showers clearing south-easterly, although low cloud and fog will linger overnight. Further north, clear skies with localized frost. Later in the far northwest clouds, rain and storm.

Thursday

Cloud and fog moving in the south, remaining mostly dry with hazy sunshine. Rain and strong winds in the north move southeast, with sunshine and stormy showers in the background.

Outlook for Friday through Sunday

It will be colder on Friday and Saturday with a mix of sunshine and stormy showers, and it could be wintry in the north and west. In the west the showers will decrease until Sunday.
