That’s what forecasters said yesterday there was a chance that snow would fall in the Scottish highlands and northern provinces.

They have now said it could fall in lower parts of Britain on Friday and Saturday.

The Met Office wrote in its five-day forecast: “Friday and Saturday will be colder and more unsettled, with heavy rain in some places.

‘A risk of wet snow and hills snowand possibly reach a lower level.”

Cold, wet and windy conditions are likely to occur before the snow begins to fall.

The Met said Brits were likely to wake up to a dry morning today before rain sets in this evening.

In a speech this evening it was said: “Rain and drizzle for many, with the heaviest rain in the west of Scotland, the north England And Wales.

‘It will be tough later in the southwest. Later, clearer spells will develop for the North.”

Tomorrow will be another humid day, with a chance of drier weather in the north.

The mercury also looks set to remain in the single figures in much of Britain in the coming days, the Met said.

While Manchester, London And Plymouth could reach double digits today, temperatures will drop from tomorrow – and stay that way until early next week.

Forecasters had warned Britain could freeze from yesterday – especially when snow started to fall in the north.

The snowfall comes just days after parts of the country were drenched in heavy rain.

This morning the Environment Agency said 40 flood warnings were still in force across the country, while 117 flood warnings were also in force.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service said three people were taken to hospital after a bus and van crashed into a tree West Sussex away on Monday.

Photos from the scene show a bus with a broken windscreen and windows on Guildford Road.

A gray van was also seen with a collapsed front and broken windows, while glass littered the road.

Photos taken just after the huge tree fell showed it resting in one of the bus windows.

Metrobus operations director Gordon Frost said: “High winds caused a tree to fall on a moving vehicle at Farthings Hill, Horsham.”

The British had been told to brace themselves temperatures drop below zero.

The mercury dropped to -6 degrees Celsius in some parts on Friday evening, causing much of the country to wake up to freezing temperatures with “local fog and mist“.

In Aboyne, Scotland, conditions plummeted to -6.4 degrees Celsius in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Cold conditions arrived from the north, leaving frost on the ground. Early birds had to defrost their cars because of the cold wind.
