The heaviest rain, up to 8mm per hour, is expected in northern England.

Yesterday, rainfall of up to 26mm was recorded in Sennybridge, Wales.

“It will be a cloudy start to the day for much of the country and it will also be wet in Scotland, northern England and Wales,” said With office meteorologist Clare Nasir.

“The rain is clearing up Northern Ireland through the morning. The central belt will see more cloud cover, but that should clear as well.”

But it won’t be all bad news on the weather front with milder temperatures coming,

The weather will remain exceptionally mild for this time of year, with the mercury in England, especially in the west, expected to reach around 14 or 15 degrees Celsius.

And for Scotland and Northern Ireland there will be some sun throughout the afternoon.

It comes after Brits heading to Cheltenham Racecourse for the first day yesterday battled the wet and wild weather.
