HEAVY rain is set to drench most of Britain this weekend – with the Met Office warning of flooding and travel chaos.

About 4mm of rain expected to fall hourly in parts of the West Country, MidlandsNorth Wales and Northern England.

Due to the downpours moving in from the Atlantic Ocean, a yellow warning for rain has been rolled out across the country England and Wales.

This applies from Saturday 3:00 PM to Sunday 6:00 PM With office said.

Disruption of bus and train traffic to be expected and travel times will take longer.

Splashing water and road flooding are also likely affect travel plans and lead to disruption.

There may be some interruptions in power supply and other services.

The Met Office's Alex Burkill warned of “persistent” rain pouring into Britain this afternoon.

He added: “As we get through this morning there is some sunshine across parts of eastern England and also north-eastern parts of Scotland.

'Although many areas will become increasingly cloudy as the day progresses. That cloud causes some outbreaks of drizzle.

“However, later we will see that other system I mentioned earlier, which initially brought heavy, persistent rain across Northern Ireland.

'But then we penetrate into parts of Scotland, England and Wales.'

Despite the rain showers this weekend, temperatures remain mild.

Highs of 14 degrees Celsius are expected in London Manchester13C in Newcastle and 12C in Belfast

Tonight it will remain mainly cloudy but dry, but a large rain shower is expected to come from the west during the night.

It will be a damp start to Sunday with persistent rainfall across England and Wales.

Sunday will be another mild day with highs around 15 degrees London14C in Manchester and 11C in Edinburgh.
