Briton, 69, dies during horror dive from fourth-floor hotel balcony in Pattaya when neighbors heard him screaming for help

A British pensioner has died after falling from a four-storey hotel balcony in Thailand.

The 69-year-old is said to have landed in a narrow alley in Pattaya around 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The man was found shirtless at the scene Police and medics, conscious but unable to speak.

He was rushed to Bang Lamung Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A Thai woman who lives opposite the hotel said she heard the Briton calling for help and alerted police when she saw him lying on his back, groaning in pain.

She said: “I was resting in my room when I heard someone crying outside.

“I grabbed my flashlight and looked near the hotel, where I found the injured man lying on the ground.”

The man's body is reportedly still in hospital but will soon be given to his family so they can hold one funeral.

Police Lieutenant Anirut Jehroh

Police Lieutenant Anirut Jehroh from Pattaya City Police Station said: “We inspected the British man's room and found no traces of assault.

'We don't know yet whether he fell on purpose or accidentally.

'We don't believe anyone else was involved. A post-mortem examination will reveal whether he was drunk at the time.”

Another man, a 60 year old Swede swimming coach, also died early Sunday morning after falling from a hotel in Pattaya.

He fell from three floors – from a hotel in another part of the former fishing village – and suffered serious injuries before dying.

Police are investigating the causes of both tragic incidents.

Pattaya is a city that became popular in the 1960s among American troops looking for a restful break US military had bases in Thailand, although it later turned into a sex tourism hell.

The seedy city continues to attract unwanted guests from all countries, despite efforts by officials to transform the region into a family-friendly destination.

Local media reports that the British tourist died after falling from a hotel on Soi Buakhao in Central Pattaya – a busy street between South Pattaya and Central Pattaya roads.
