Broadmeadows crash: Two men killed after car loses control in Melbourne's north

Two men have died after their stolen car crashed into a utility pole, with police finding two firearms inside the vehicle.

The fatal collision happened along Camp Road near Broadmeadows, in Melbourne's north, at 5.30am on Tuesday.

The passenger died at the scene while the driver was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Detective Sergeant Daryll Out of the Victoria Police Major Crash Investigation Unit said the white Hyundai was speeding at about 180km/h early on Tuesday.

“When this accident happened, the speed was estimated at well over 60mph,” he said.

After the crash, a sawed-off shotgun and another firearm were found in the car.

Camp Road is currently closed between Blair Street and Maygar Boulevard. Officers on site direct traffic.

Detective Sergeant Out said the Hyundai was stolen from Moama, near the Victoria-NSW border, in December.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the crash.
