Few things are more British than a royal in a Burberry coat, as Kate demonstrated a few weeks ago when she stepped out in a quilted jacket with the signature tartan.

The British fashion house first received the prestigious honor of a Royal Warrant from the Queen in 1955, with the brand credited as her ‘Weatherproofer’ of choice.

She was often seen in their iconic neutral trench.

The original trench coat was designed by Thomas Burberry in 1912 during the outbreak of the First World War.

The name itself is derived from the trenches and Burberry was the official clothing supplier to the British Army providing functional clothing for soldiers during warfare.

Since then, many versions of this power coat have been created, whether cropped, printed or in luxurious fabrics, with the royal family bringing the fashionable outerwear to the forefront of their work wardrobe.
