Celine Dion wows as she sings backstage at the Grammys with nominee Sonyae Elise – after star's shocking performance on show amid battle with stiffness syndrome

Celine Dion showed off her continued vocal talent as she performed a song backstage at the Grammys on Sunday – after her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome forced her to leave her career behind.

The singer, 55, was greeted with a standing ovation as she walked on stage at the awards – before fans went into an uproar over 34-year-old Taylor Swift 'ignoring' her as she accepted her Album of the Year Award took.

The star brushed off the drama backstage as she sang a duet with the Grammy nominee, showing off her amazing vocals as the pair embraced.

Sonyae shared the clip on her Instagram and fans were in awe of the collaboration.

At Dion's performance, she presented Taylor with her award, but fans pointed out that Swift didn't acknowledge her or make eye contact, quickly looking back to celebrate the moment with her staff.

However, there didn't seem to be any bad feelings as the iconic couple happily posed backstage later.

Celine also riffed with Stevie Wonder and caught up with Oprah Winfrey.

A source said Page six: 'I don't think Céline cared and they talked backstage afterwards. But Céline was just friendly and happy to be there. Of course, the right thing would have been for Taylor to acknowledge her, like Adele did years ago.

'She wanted to show everyone that she is doing well. She has good days and bad days… it's a painful disease, but it's not a death sentence.

“She's clearly capable of doing things and she wanted to show everyone that she's back. She looked fantastic. The hope is that she can perform.”

Swift was criticized for being “disrespectful” by “ignoring” Celine Dion as she accepted the Album of the Year award at the Grammys on Sunday.

Dion made a surprise, rare appearance at the ceremony, amid her battle with stiff person syndrome, to present 34-year-old Swift with the honor – which she herself won 27 years ago.

Swift – nominated for her 2022 record Midnights – became the first person to win the award four times, thrillingly taking to the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

“Taylor Swift didn't even hug or acknowledge Celine Dion. I can't stand it,” one angry fan wrote on social media afterwards.

Taylor Swift completely ignored Celine Dion like she was a trophy model presenter, #GRAMMYS was wild. She has won this three times and is usually such a pro. But to ignore an icon, who has to deal with so much? Yes.'

“As someone who has defended Taylor, I cannot defend this. No acknowledgment whatsoever from Celine,” another added.

“Taylor Swift will never EVER settle for ignoring Celine Dion at the Grammys.”

“Taylor Swift doesn't recognize Celine Dion, a legend, at the Grammys, but drags Lana onto that stage? Smh,” someone else wrote, referring to Lana Del Rey who was on stage.

“Taylor doesn't acknowledge Celine and then takes the Grammy from her… PRISON.”

Dion was visibly emotional as she walked on stage with the support of eldest son Rene-Charles Angelil, 23, to cheers and a standing ovation and to present Album of the Year.

She said, “Thank you all! I love you right back. You look beautiful. When I say I'm happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart.'

“Those blessed enough to be here at the Grammy Awards should never take for granted the immense love and joy that music brings to our lives and to people around the world.”

“And now it gives me great joy to present a Grammy Award that two legends Diana Ross and Sting presented to me 27 years ago. These are the outstanding nominees for album of the year.'

Celine then announced that Swift's critically acclaimed album Midnights had won the award, making Grammy history as she won the award for the fourth time.

Celine looked stunning in a terracotta coat and glittering jewelery as she was helped onto the stage.

The star's fight to continue her career will be chronicled in the new documentary I Am: Celine Dion.

The hitmaker announced in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome – an extremely rare condition in which the muscles in the torso and limbs alternate between cramping and stiffness. She revealed that she would be retiring from performing.

The new documentary – captured over more than a year of filming – follows the star as she fights to continue her normal life and career amid her diagnosis – and promises the condition 'won't define her' as she vows to raise awareness enlarge.

Swift was nominated in six categories at the ceremony: Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for 'Anti-Hero' and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her 'Karma '-collaboration with Ice Spice.

The pop star won Best Pop Vocal Album and the night's biggest award, Album of the Year.

Swift beat out an impressive field for the award, including: Boygenius – The Record, Janelle Monáe – The Age of Pleasure, Jon Batiste – World Music Radio, Lana Del Rey – Did You Know There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Miley Cyrus – Endless summer vacation, Olivia Rodrigo – Guts and SZA – SOS.

The big win made her the first person to ever win the top prize four times, as she was previously tied with Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and Paul Simon.
