The death of a two-month-old boy in a suburban family home is not being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.

Chance Ford's body was found in the living room of a property on Swamp Gum Place in Alfredton, in Ballarat's western suburbs, after 9pm on Saturday.

Neighbors heard screaming coming from the home and went inside to see what was going on.

They were confronted with the sight of the unconscious baby boy on the ground and desperately tried to save his life, before emergency services arrived and took over.

Chance died at the scene.

His parents, Renee Lockett and Jake Ford, cooperated with police throughout the investigation.

On Monday afternoon, family friend Kristopher Lowe created one GoFundMe to raise money for Chance's funeral.

“We are raising money for baby Chance Ford, funeral expenses and for his seven siblings and other immediate family members who experienced severe emotional trauma during his final moments,” the fundraiser said.

Another family friend, Angela Walker, told 7 News: “The mother was just screaming that something had happened, and just crying and screaming.”

'It was quite confrontational, his father was at the front quite upset.'

“I'm not sure where his mother was, but I imagine she was quite upset wherever she was.”

She described Chance as a “beautiful boy.”

Victoria Police confirmed on Monday afternoon that his death was not being treated as suspicious.

“Police have received the results of an autopsy following the death of a two-month-old boy in Alfredton on January 20,” a spokesperson said.

'The matter is not being treated as suspicious and local police will prepare a report for the coroner.'
