Big happy family! Chip Gains and wife Joanna Gains have their hands full with five kids after welcoming their youngest son, Crew, in June 2018 – and they’re happy to share their highs and lows with fans.
The pair, who married in 2003, are also parents to Drake, Ella, Duke and Emmie. They rose to fame as the stars of HGTV’s Fixer upperwhich ran for five seasons from 2013 to 2018, but their family always came first.
“Their days are busy and hectic with homeschooling, chores and cooking, [but] Jo wouldn’t have it any other way,” a source said exclusively Us weekly in October 2020. “She likes to be busy and with five kids it is non-stop busy. Jo teaches the kids about gardening and how much fun it is to plant the seeds and watch them grow into vegetables. They get to harvest the bounty themselves.
In addition to raising their five children in Waco, Texas, Chip and Joanna work side-by-side on all of their business ventures – including the resurgence of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home as part of their own Magnolia Network, which launched in July 2021.
“Neither of them makes a business decision without consulting the other,” the insider said Us. “They feed off each other’s creativity and are open to something new. Their faith keeps them grounded and grateful for the success they have found.”
The pair run the Magnolia Market, Magnolia Shops, Magnolia Press, Magnolia Seed + Supply, Silos Baking Co. and more at the Silos in their native place. They have also opened Magnolia Table, published Magnolia Journal, and founded Magnolia Reality over the years.
“Jo is proud of what she and Chip have been able to achieve together with basically nothing but a dream,” the source added at the time. “She’s living her dream life and doing what she loves.”
Throughout all of their personal and professional success, Chip and Joanna have leaned on each other – and have not been afraid of failure. They often share their stories with fans, including advice on parenting, love and their careers.
“Chip and his family have always had this thing that Gaines never quit, so he’d say, ‘Jo, we’re not going to stop, we’re going to make this,'” Joanna recalled during a virtual discussion for the Salesforce Presents Stories of Resilience: A Conversation With Chip and Joanna Gaines on Finding Inspiration event in July 2020 about the couple’s choice to weather adversity.
When times get tough, the We are gardeners author knows that focusing on her bond with Chip will help them get through it.
“We looked at each other and said let’s just bail and leave, that seemed so much easier than figuring out how to get through this,” she continued. “We leaned on each other’s strengths in those moments of weakness where normally I would only see the glass half empty and Chip would see the glass half full.”
