New Delhi: Indian indices opened on a flat note on Tuesday amid an overnight decline in US indices and weak Asian signals. The Bank of China’s decision to cut lending rates also had a spillover effect on Indian indices. Sensex opened today at 63,17677 (previous close: 63,168.30), climbed as high as 63,440.19 and fell to 62,801.91 during the day’s trading; meanwhile, Nifty opened today at 18,752.35 (previous close: 18,755.45), reaching a high of 18,839.70 and a low of 18,660.65. Interestingly, Nifty50 is just a few points off its lifetime high of 18,887.60.

At the close, BSE Sensex was trading 159.40 points higher at 63,327.79 and Nifty50 was trading 61.25 points higher at 18,816.70.

“Despite cautious market sentiment, the bulls in the Nifty index managed to maintain control and drive the benchmark higher. The Bank Nifty also posted significant gains and showed strength alongside other rising sector indices. Despite weak global signals, Bank Nifty ignored them and followed the uptrend. After some initial instability, the bulls regrouped and successfully pushed the market to the green. In particular, the Nifty index ended the day at its highest point, indicating the dominance of the bulls in the market,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd.

Looking ahead, the focus will be on the Nifty’s all-time high at 18888, which serves as the next target for the bulls. Reaching a break above this level could potentially pave the way for a further rise to an important psychological milestone of 19,000,” he added.
