But council bosses have pulled them up and the lights will now be switched off.

People passing by the project, which is yet to be completed, were stunned to see the lamp post appearing inside and outside the eaves of the house.

The property, developed by Ashton-under-Lyne-based Sachdev Properties Limited, was always intended to sit next to the lamppost, as shown in the application drawings.

The fact that the lamppost was at the end of the row was never mentioned in the paperwork when planning permission was granted in February 2020.

In fact the decision was made based on the proposed plans which showed it was adjacent to the property, and not in the roof line.

But when it became clear that the two-bedroom homes would be put on the market, with one part of the row of four, Tameside Council stepped in.

Now the company has agreed to rip out their unique design aspect and move it.

A spokesperson for Tameside Council said: “We have spoken to the developer and they have agreed to remove the lamppost and locate it closer to an adjacent boundary wall.”
