Bhilwara: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party in the election-bound state of Rajasthan. Prime Minister Modi accused the party of indulging in ‘dynastic’ politics and said the grand old party is aiming to ‘punish’ its leader Sachin Pilot for his father’s rebellion against the high command in 1996. While addressing a public meeting in Bhilwara’s Shahpura of Rajasthan, Prime Minister Modi said that the Congress party has a sense of resentment for his son Sachin Pilot and his father Rajesh Pilot

“You know the history of Congress. Anyone who tries to raise their voice against malpractices in the party will lose political space because of the high command in Delhi. Rajesh Pilot raised his voice against Congress only once and that too for the betterment of Congress, but the party punishes Sachin Pilot even today. Rajesh Pilot is no more, but Congress has a grudge against his son, Sachin Pilot,” the Prime Minister said.

Notably, Congress leader Rajesh Pilot was considered one of the few in the party’s governing body who argued against fielding Sonia Gandhi as the party’s prime ministerial candidate.

The pilot feud between Gehlot and Sachin emerged soon after the Congress’ victory in Rajasthan in 2018 for the chief minister’s post. Although Pilot agreed to play second fiddle to the veteran, he rebelled in 2020. In 1996, Narasimha Rao resigned as president, making way for Sitaram Kesri, who had previously served as the party’s treasurer for almost two decades.

In December 1997, Sonia announced her decision to campaign for Congress in the 1998 elections and became active within the party. A year later, she expressed her willingness to run for the post and Kesri was deposed in a bloodless coup.

However, the Prime Minister today further sharpened his attack on the Congress party and said there is a grave danger hanging over the culture of Rajasthan due to the polarization the Congress has taken.

‘There is a great danger hanging over the culture of Rajasthan. The path taken by Congress for polarization will lead Rajasthan towards destruction,” the Prime Minister said.
