Constitution Day: President Murmu unveils statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in SC; Justice Minister, CJI present – VIEW

New Delhi: On the occasion of the Constitution Day of India 2023a special meeting has been organized in the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi. Prior to the position, President Droupadi Murmu has revealed statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar in the premises of the Supreme Court, with the Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud pending. Constitution Day is celebrated on November 26 every year as it marks the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Indian Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. The constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950. However, it was in 2015 that the Government of India declared November 26 as Constitution Day.

President Murmu unveils statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar

As mentioned earlier, the President of India was present at the Supreme Court in New Delhi to unveil a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar, on the occasion of Constitution Day. The decision to remove the statue of Dr. Ambedkar came from a group of lawyers closely associated with the Ambedkarite movement. These lawyers had written a letter to the CJI in this regard last year and in September this year, the Supreme Court Arguing Counsel Association (SCACA) also filed a representation for the installation of the statue.

Union Law Minister CJI DY Chandrachud pays tribute

The unveiling of the statue was attended by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and other dignitaries. In the video, the President, the Law Minister and the CJI can be seen paying flora tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on November 19, 2015 notified the decision of the Government of India to celebrate the 26th day of November every year as ‘Constitution Day’ to promote the values ​​of the Constitution among the citizens. The Preamble of the Indian Constitution has declared India a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic. It has secured justice, liberty and equality of all citizens for all citizens and promoted brotherhood to maintain the unity and integrity of the nation.
