HAVE you ever wondered what it’s really like to work aboard a cruise ship?

And according to the cruise employee, there is one type of passenger that the crew members are afraid to have on board – so are you guilty of this big mistake?

“Crew members generally make fun of passengers who think it’s okay to walk around the cruise ship barefoot,” Lucy told The Daily Star.

“There is always at least one passenger per cruise who feels comfortable strolling around the entire ship without shoes.

“They even go into the shops and the theater barefoot because they are technically inside.”

The cruise employee, who regularly shares a sneak peak of her life on board on Instagram @cruisingascrewpoints out that “you must have your shoes on” as soon as you walk out the door of your cabin.

She continues: “And if you do want to walk around on the cruise ship without shoes, just know that the crew members will make fun of you.”

Lucy goes on to say that the ‘biggest mistake’ passengers can make is being rude to staff, as she warns that you never know ‘which crew member can solve your problems’.

And according to the cruise ship employee, politeness can pay off, as well-mannered guests may receive additional benefits after building a “genuine bond” with the crew.

“If you have a Nice person and you have a bond with a crew member, they are more likely to do their very best for you,” she explains.

Lucy also regularly answers questions on her website cruisingascrew.comfor anyone who wants to follow in her career footsteps.

She then discusses certain “unspoken rules” on cruise ships.

“As you begin your career on cruise ships, you will find that there are many rules to follow,” her website says.

“Some are talked about and taught, and some are not talked about. They are things that people do and rules that people follow without even asking why they do it.”

Lucy previously revealed the four easiest jobs that will give you the best time at sea and exploring beautiful destinations.

According to the cruise ship employee, the first is a store clerk.

“For those of you who don’t know, I work in the shipboard shops and it’s very easy work,” she says.

“For tax reasons, the shops may only be open when the ship is at sea.

“Today we will be in the port until 6 p.m. and I will start work at 7 p.m.

“I have the whole day off, I have all day to do whatever I want, whether that’s sleeping, recording videos or going out and exploring the port we’re in.

“It’s one of the lowest-paying jobs on the ship, but I get so much time off that the salary is close to that.”

She then says that working at the cash register and in the casino are also at the top of the list, before also introducing the excursions department.

“You get some nice free time and you go on a lot of excursions,” she explains.

“On most cruise ships, if you’re in the excursion department, you’re a higher rank, so you have your own cabin.

“You have a higher status, so you do get privileges.

“Your job is to book beautiful trips in beautiful countries and destinations and take those trips, because you have to experience the excursion in order to recommend it to the next people.

“I would consider working in the excursions department.

“You are very well compensated in terms of salary.”
