I’ve been single for three years since a relationship that lasted six months. Before that I had what my generation calls “situationships” – not really boyfriend or girlfriend, just something casual.

I tried not to think too much about it, but they still busted when I asked for our table.
First impression?
My first thought was that he is not my normal type. I’m usually into nerd-looking men – lawyer types who look well-read. But Ryan wasn’t like that at all and, at six feet tall, was also shorter than my usual type. However, he was very attractive. I saw his piercing blue eyes.

Easy to talk to?
I was afraid that I would end up dominating the conversation because I’m a chatterbox, but so is he. He didn’t go to university while I studied English at Royal Holloway in Surrey, but that made our conversations refreshing.
We talked about our work – he works in the film industry and I’m in media – and our families, and I’ve never laughed so much in my life. We discussed past relationships and were very honest.
He is quite a stress free person whereas I am the complete opposite so it was nice of him to tell me he had a great time putting me at ease. The date was delicious.
embarrassing moments?
We got olives as a starter and he said he always gives away the last bit of everything he shares. I am the same so he had to ask the waiter who we should give the last olive to. The waiter had no idea, but we burst into laughter.
Did the sparks fly?
I would say so. I don’t know if we are friends or more, but I would definitely like to meet again.

See him again?
Yes, he brought out the best in me. As we walked to the train station, I said, “Can I have your number?” because I was afraid he wouldn’t say it. But he smiled and said of course he was going to ask!

I think he felt the same as I did.

Dad would have a lot in common with Ryan – they both love to eat.

It wasn’t until I got to the restaurant and realized she wasn’t there yet that I started to feel a little nervous waiting.

When she came in I thought she was a pretty girl in a pretty pink top and pants.
She looked casual but smart and had a beautiful smile. We had a bit of a hug before we sat down.
Easy to talk to?
We started chatting and didn’t stop. In fact, we were so busy talking that we didn’t order any food for 45 minutes.
After the meal we chatted for so long that the staff finally kicked us out of the restaurant after about five hours because they had to get ready for the evening.
We don’t have much in common, but it really didn’t matter. She grew up in Devon and went to university, while I was born and raised in London and went straight to work.
However, we both like to be active – she likes sports and the gym, and I like football.
We also seemed to share the same sense of humor and got off each other very easily.

Not really. The two of us can chat for England.
Did the sparks fly?
I felt we got a little flirty towards the end, yes. We were teasing each other a bit more and I felt there was a definite spark of something.
See her again?
After dinner in the restaurant, we sat down in a park for a while and then walked to the train station together.
We hugged and exchanged numbers before parting ways. I already messaged her, so we’ll see what happens.
