Who was Dan ‘Lionheart’ Wheldon?

Daniel Clive Wheldon was born on June 22, 1978 in Buckinghamshire, England.

He started kart racing at the age of four, but started competing in competitive events at the age of eight.

After finding early success in Britain, he flew to the United States in 1999 to continue his racing career.

There he won the American F2000 and was named Rookie of the Year.

In 2002, he began competing in the IndyCar Series with Panther Racing and captured the Indianappolis 500 in 2005.

He broke the record for most wins in a single season, with six.

The following year he drove for Chip Ganassi Racing and finished the season tied for first in points with Sam Hornish Jr.

Hornish has more wins than Wheldon and was crowned Indy Car Champion in 2006.

He drove in the 2011 Indianapolis 500 with Bryan Herta Autosport and finished in first place.

What was Dan Wheldon’s cause of death?

Dan Wheldon was part of a 15-car wreck in the 11th round of the IndyCar World Championship on October 16, 2011.

His car ran over another vehicle and struck the fence at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

He was taken by helicopter to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

CBS reports that Wheldon suffered a “non-survivable injury” and the official cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma to the head.

He was 33.
