‘Doctor Who’ 2024: What you need to know about season 14 starring Ncuti Gatwa

Ncuti Gatwa becomes the newest star of Doctor whoand fans are counting down until they meet his version of the Doctor.

The Sex education actor was cast in 2022 prior to the previous star Jodie Whittaker‘s last episode. Russell T Davieswho in 2005 relaunched WHO and left alongside David Tennant will return in 2010 as showrunner for both the 60th anniversary specials and season 14.

“Ncuti blinded us, grabbed the Doctor and possessed those TARDIS keys within seconds,” Davies said in a May 2022 statement when Gatwa was announced in the role. “It’s an honor to work with him, and a hoot, I can’t wait to get started.”

When will season 14 of ‘Doctor Who’ air?

Following the broadcast of three 60th anniversary specials (read more about that here) on BBC and Disney+, episodes of Gatwa will begin airing during the “festive period”. Disney+ confirmed that the Doctor who Christmas special, titled ‘The Church on Ruby Road’, airs on December 25. The last four winter specials aired on New Year’s Day, making this the first Christmas Day premiere since 2017.

How does Ncuti Gatwa feel about being the new doctor?

“There aren’t really words to describe how I feel,” he said in a press release. “A mix of deeply honored, extremely excited and of course a little scared. This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and all of my incredibly talented predecessors have handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will do my utmost to do the same.”

Who is the 15th Doctor’s new companion?

BBC and Disney+, the American streaming service for the new season, announced this in November 2022 Millie Gibson will play Gatwa’s sidekick, Ruby Sunday.

What does Ncuti Gatwa look like as the doctor?

In December 2022, Disney+ and BBC unveiled the first photo of Gatwa and Gibson in their signature character costumes. The new star wore a bright orange shirt with a dark orange plaid jacket and pants. He completed the look with some silver rings and Gallifreyan nail art. Gibson, meanwhile, wore a denim jacket with blue shorts and tights underneath.

Who plays Jonathan Groff?

The Spring blossoms actor was officially announced in a “key role” in May 2023. The first photos of his yet-to-be-revealed character show him with the Doctor and Millie in Regency-era clothing.

Groff said in a statement: “I am so excited to delve into the extraordinary mind of Russell T. Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa rise in this iconic role!”

Which ‘Drag Race’ Alumnus Will Join ‘Doctor Who’?

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5 champion Jinkx monsoon played an “important role”. Doctor who. While no further character details have been revealed yet, the Broadway alum is excited to step into the TARDIS.

“I am honored, excited and extremely excited to participate Doctor who! Russell T. Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer – I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew,” the artist said in an April 2023 statement. “I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”

Game of Thrones alum Indira Varma is set to play The Duchess. It is not clear whether the mysterious royal will be related to Suzie Costello, the character she played in 2008 Doctor who spinoff Torch wood.

“I love participating Doctor who and extremely excited to cross cosmic paths with Ncuti, as the Doctor, and look forward to causing interplanetary mischief with him,” she said in a May 2023 statement. “I loved playing Suzie Costello to Russell T Davies Torch wood I am very happy to be entering this world again.”

Who’s in the cast of ‘Doctor Who’ season 14?

Other confirmed members of season 14 include Lenny Rush as Morris and Aneurine Barnard as the ‘mysterious’ Roger ap Gwilliam. No further details have been released for their characters.
