Drying our clothes in the winter months is something every Brit dreads – where can we turn when the outside washing line is out of use?

No one likes the ugly clothes rack taking up space in the living room for days, and it's especially a problem when you throw linens and towels into the mix.

But in recent years, one useful gadget has come to the fore: the trusty dehumidifier.

A dehumidifier is an air conditioning device that reduces the amount of moisture in the air, helping clothes dry faster.

And according to Mrs Hinch's fans, one brand takes the cake.

According to the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, Meaco dehumidifiers have gained a cult status.

But considering the cheapest on the market – the MeacoDry ABC10L 10L portable dehumidifier – costs £160, this is quite an investment.

The MeacoDry Arete One 25L Dehumidifier and Purifier costs a whopping £300 at Currys.

However, Brits have assured that the gadgets are worth the investment, with one woman claiming she has reduced the drying time of her clothes from two days to just six hours.

“We looked at quite a few and ultimately chose Meaco,” says Donna Lumb.

“I was surprised at how much water is needed when I use it to dry clothes.

“My laundry can now dry in six hours or less depending on the thickness of the clothes on the drying rack, as opposed to a day or two before.”

Jenny Jones Hamblin reiterated that she is always “amazed at how much water her Meaco collects.”

Carolyn Hamer warned it is noisier than she expected, but is “happy with it regardless.”

And according to the experts, investing in a Meaco will not cause major damage to your energy bill.

“Energy-efficient dehumidifiers have humidistats,” explains Chris Michael, air treatment expert and director of Meaco.

“This means the machine will work to lower the humidity to the recommended indoor humidity of 55% RH before turning itself off.

“It only turns back on when it detects a rise in humidity.”

In addition to drying your clothes faster, dehumidifiers also help keep moisture at bay.

Drier air helps control mold spores and dust mites so that the toxic lint doesn't spread through your home and make your family sick.
