Millions of households should have received payments worth up to £900

The cash boost is available to anyone claiming Universal Credit and certain other means-tested benefits, with other payments available for pensioners and people with disabilities.

Those eligible should have received payments directly into their bank accounts, with another due next week.

There are three different types of cash assistance, depending on your circumstances and whether you qualify. These are:

  • Living expenses allowance worth up to £900
  • Disability living allowance worth £150
  • A pensioner's living expenses payment (if you are entitled to a winter fuel payment) worth up to £300

In total it is worth £1,350, although not everyone will receive all the payments as eligibility varies.

All benefits are tax-free and do not affect the benefits or tax credits you receive.

We've put together a full list of the exact codes to look out for on your bank statement and the dates when payments were due.

We also explain what you can do if you notice that you have missed a payment.

Living costs – up to £900

Living expenses are additional cash payments from the government paid to recipients of certain benefits and tax breaks across the United Kingdom.

We've put together the full list of benefits people are eligible for here.

Payments are made in three installments of £301, £300 and £299.

The first two payments were made in May and September 2023 and the final payment of £299 will be made next week.

What you need to look for on your bank statement to recognize the payment is your National Insurance Number followed by DWP COL or HMRC COLS.

Disabled Living Costs – £150

Disability living expenses were paid to six million people with disabilities last summer.

To qualify for this benefit, you had to receive certain benefits and we have listed them here.

If you want to be sure that you have not missed out on disability maintenance payments, you should look at your bank statement.

Payment will be shown as your National Insurance number followed by DWP COL and payment will be made around June 2023.

Cost of living for pensioners – up to £300

A £300 pensioner living expenses payment was also made during the winter.

If you were entitled to a winter fuel payment for the winter of 2023 to 2024, you will be paid the extra money with your normal payment.

The last day of automatic payments was January 26. So you need to take action now if you haven't received yours.

The code you need to look out for if you live in Great Britain is your national insurance number followed by DWP WFP.

If you live in Northern Ireland it's slightly different and the code to recognize is your National Insurance Number followed by DFC WFP.

What can I do if I have not received my payment?

If you think you should have received a living allowance but you cannot see this on your bank statement, you can report this.

To report a missing payment you can do this on the government website. You will need your Citizen Service Number for this.

The DWP has set up a specific form to report missing living expenses payments.

Before reporting a missing payment, make sure you check your bank, building society or credit union account.

You may also not report the same missing payment more than once.

In the meantime, we reveal the full list of benefits due, including the final payment of £299 towards living costs.
