Police believe there was an incident after finding blood-covered clothing belonging to Davies and Baird on Wednesday morning.

At this stage it is unknown who the blood belongs to.

But a phone, keys and credit cards were also among the belongings discovered in the bin – 18 miles away from Baird's residence.

Police then searched Baird's home in Paddington and found a “large amount of blood” and bloodstained furniture.

The amount of blood led officers to believe that at least one person had suffered “a significant injury.”

When officers entered Baird's property, they immediately established a crime scene.

Detectives are treating the couple's disappearance as suspicious after Davies' home in Waterloo was also found to be empty.

Baird's neighbors heard an argument early Monday morning but did not report it until police began investigating the incident two days later.

The officers now fear for both men because their families cannot reach them.

Chief Inspector Jodi Radmore said: 'There has been an incident of some sort which most likely occurred at the Paddington address which has given us significant concern about one of the incidents, possibly both.

'The investigation is in a very early phase. We are still processing the Paddington address. All lines of inquiry are open.'

Three of the men's cars have been seized.

Their credit cards haven't been used since the weekend.

A friend reported that he last saw Baird on Tuesday and that he looked “fine.”

Davies also updated his social media account a day before the disappearance with a series of photos of him in Vancouver, Canada.
