FREEVIEW users have been warned that a number of well-known channels will disappear from the service within days.
An alert will appear on six channels – with more to follow in May.
It includes popular radio stations Magic, Kerrang! and greatest hits.
Owners Bauer already took away channels from Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat last year.
Instead, the company is encouraging fans to listen on TV via the Radioplayer app, radio, mobile or smart speaker.
The number of people listening via TV is now relatively small, accounting for only 4 percent of digital consumption.
But according to radio data from RAJAR, 37 million hours of television were still listened to in the last quarter of 2023.
DAB now accounts for the lion’s share of digital radio listening, with 59 percent and 433 million hours.
The full list of ax names on Freeview is:
- Greatest Hits Radio
- Hits Radio
- Kerrang! Radio
- KISS Ver
- KISS STORY
- Magic radio
The affected stations will no longer be available as Freeview channels from April 2.
And on May 10, Absolute Radio will follow suit Radio today.
How to keep listening from your TV
If you own a Samsung or LG smart TV, you’re in luck.
The Radioplayer app can be downloaded for free from the app store on these platforms.
If you have Sky or Virgin Media, these channels are already gone and the Radioplayer app is available instead.
New Freeview channel launches this month
While you may be losing radio stations, there’s a new channel launch on Freeview in March that you can look forward to.
