Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm over 'Mandalorian' fire

Gina Carano is fighting back against Disney and Lucasfilm three years after she was let go from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

The 41-year-old actress filed a lawsuit against the companies on Tuesday, February 6, claiming she was discriminated against for sharing her political views and was wrongfully fired as a result, according to multiple points of sale. The lawsuit is being funded by X owner Elon Musk in an effort to provide legal support to those fighting discrimination for posts shared on the social media platform.

In February 2021, a spokesperson announced that Carano would not return as her Mandalorian character, Cara Dune, in future episodes. She was subsequently released by the UTA Agency after posting controversial Instagram Stories comparing modern Republicans to Jewish people in the Holocaust. Carano also reportedly used her social media platform to criticize government mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic and claim that voter fraud influenced the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, among other things.

In the lawsuit against Carano, she claims she was asked by Disney to apologize and meet with a representative of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination after her comments, which she declined. After refusing to meet with the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedyand 45 company employees who identify as LGBTQ+, Carano says she was fired Star Wars franchise.

Carano claims Disney began a “post-termination smear campaign” against her for not conforming to the company's positions, including excluding her from marketing materials for an episode of Running wild with Bear Grylls.

Carano claimed she was discriminated against because of her religious beliefs and opinions on issues such as preferred pronouns and the Black Lives Matter movement, and accused the companies of double standards. According to several media outlets, a tweet from Carano's is cited in the lawsuit The Mandalorian Co-star Pedro Pascalclaiming he faced no consequences for an alleged tweet comparing the former president Donald Trump to Hitler.

Carano is seeking $75,000 and additional damages, as well as an injunction forcing Lucasfilm to recast her as Cara Dune.

We weekly reached out to Disney and Lucasfilm for comment but did not hear back at time of publication.

Carano discussed the lawsuit in detail X post on Tuesday, in which I wrote: “I was hounded from everything I posted to every post I liked because I didn't conform to the acceptable narrative at the time. My words have been consistently twisted to demonize and dehumanize me as an alt-right extremist. It was an anti-bullying smear campaign designed to silence me, destroy me and make an example of me.”

She then thanked Musk, 52, and X “for giving me the opportunity to expose my case,” as well as “all the people who supported me and made your voices heard.”

In a statement on Tuesday, X's chief operating officer said: Joe Benarrochwrote that the platform was “proud to provide financial support to Gina Carano's lawsuit, giving her the opportunity to seek vindication for her rights to free speech on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment or discrimination.”
