Gino D’Acampo gets a new job after closing his debt-ridden chain of Italian restaurants

Gino D’Acampo has found a new job after a series of career setbacks.

It was recently reported that the TV chef, 46, had to close his chain of Italian restaurants after it went bankrupt with debts of £5 million, while liquidators would investigate his company over alleged missing company books and the behavior of its key stakeholders.

Meanwhile, he sensationally quit ITV’s Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip in March over a row over ‘complicated’ hookups.

But things are looking good for Gino now, as he plans to entertain and educate visitors at the Yorkshire Dales Food And Drink Festival next month.

The Italian will be giving live cooking demonstrations and sharing his extensive knowledge at the festival, which takes place from 21-23 July at Funkirk Farm, Skipton.

Gino will be in good company this weekend as the Hairy Bikers and James Martin also join the lineup.

While Gok Wan, Pat Sharp and a variety of tribute acts will be on hand to provide musical entertainment.

It comes as a £150,000 investigation has been launched into why IRG (Old) WWR – formerly Gino D’Acampo Worldwide Restaurants Ltd – ended up owing millions after it was declared solvent last year.

Investigators will also look into why a creditor for Gino D’Acampo Ltd recently appeared, owing nearly £5.4 million to the company.

This Morning star Gino, who is believed to earn around £2 million a year from television work, and his wife Jessica had their company declared solvent last April and two directors signed a declaration that they had no creditors.

Liquidators are investigating why the debt was not included in the original paperwork, the prior sale of the company, the whereabouts of the company’s books and records, the behavior of key stakeholders, and other pertinent issues.

The main stakeholders are Gino, who owns ten percent, and IRG, who own an 85 percent stake in the company. The other five percent belongs to Mr. Vernon Lord.

The report states that the company’s state of affairs pointed to one creditor whose debts totaled £5,3888,075.22. They said they had received a claim totaling £4,536,175.33 so far.

IRG is owned by Icelandic founder Malcolm Walker and CEO Tarsem Dhaliwal. Gino previously had a food range at the supermarket giant.

According to the Companies House report, the liquidators estimate that the investigation will cost a total of £275,276. This consists of administration costs, the realization of assets, accounts payable and the investigation of £149,459 itself.

It comes after Gino’s My Pasta Bar chain, which opened in 2012, went under last January after losing hundreds of thousands year over year until it reached breaking point.

It was reported at the time that the Family Fortunes host chain owed HMRC £113,000 and a further £37,000 in staff wages after its three London restaurants on Fleet Street, Leadenhall Market and Bishopsgate were forced to close.

He took inspiration for the restaurant chain from “Gino’s own experience with the fresh markets of Naples,” while also featuring his “own breakfast rotolini pastries, authentic antipasti, salads, pastries, specialty breads and Italian desserts.”

His separate restaurant chain, called Gino D’Acampo My Restaurants with locations in Birmingham, Manchester, Harrogate, Leeds, Liverpool and Hull, was unaffected.

In March, Gino revealed that he has retired from his hit ITV show Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip after three series.

The chief said he was leaving because of an argument over “complicated” contacts.

The show saw the Italian TV favorite travel the world with fellow foodies Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix as they discovered the local cuisine.

Gino said his friendships with his former colleagues had nothing to do with his departure, as their “strong” bond meant more to him than squabbles over contracts.

His followers on Instagram say: ‘Last week I decided not to film Gordon, Gino and Fred Road trips anymore. The reason is very simple: nothing to do with Gordon or Fred, the friendship is very strong’.

He continued, “It’s just because we can’t get the dates together and sometimes when we get the dates together they sometimes get changed and that causes a lot of problems for me because I have other things to do.”

‘Personal problems too, because if I have to change things with my family, it’s very complicated and also because [of] contracts’.
