Girl, 10, found dead in home, named by friends paying tribute to little ‘princess’ as woman ‘known to her’ arrested

Tributes are pouring in for a schoolgirl who was found dead in her home after a woman was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The younger one, locally called Shay, was found herself fighting for her life in Rowley Regis, West Midlands yesterday.

Despite the efforts of medics, the 10-year-old could not be saved Police quickly starts a murder investigation.

West Midlands Police said last night that the 33-year-old woman held was believed to be known to the girl.

Today, plush toys and flowers lay around the house, while friends wrote sweet words for the girl.

They called young Shay a “princess” and said she would be missed by many.

One card read: “Shay. You will be so missed by everyone. Rest in peace princess.”

Another read: “I will miss you so much, Shay.”

Others said: “RIP, gone way too soon”, and “we will miss you”.

People living in the area have now said they are shocked by the tragic news.

One neighbor, who declined to give his name, said: “You just don’t think something like this is going to happen on your doorstep.

“It’s just absolutely heartbreaking what happened.”

Another said: “She was a happy little girl.

“She used to play with other children on a mattress or a sofa. It is absolutely devastating news that she has passed away.”

Police rushed to Robin Close around midday on Monday and made the tragic discovery.

They swarmed around and quickly sealed off the house where the girl was found.

Forensic teams remained at the house this morning.

Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt said last night: ‘A young girl has tragically lost her life and our thoughts are with her loved ones and everyone affected by this terrible death.
“We know how shocking and distressing this will be for the community and we will continue to be present and provide our support in the area over the coming days.
“A suspect has been arrested and detectives are fully investigating the circumstances surrounding this sad death.”
