Ahmedabad: Eleven people have died in rain-related incidents as heavy rains continued to batter Gujarat, causing a flood-like situation in several parts of the state and leading to several villages in the affected areas being cut off, officials said on Sunday.

At least 11 people have been killed in rain-related incidents since Friday, police said, with Jamnagar district one of the hardest hit areas.

A three-year-old girl died after falling into a well on Friday while scooping water from her flooded home there, while the bodies of two men who went missing after torrential rain were found on Saturday by a rescue team, police said. to the PTI news agency.

Citing data from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), the report said parts of Valsad and Navsari districts received extremely heavy rainfall in a 24-hour period to Sunday morning.

Several villages were cut off as roads flooded or were washed away, with the State and State Disaster Response Forces (NDRF and SDRF) conducting operations to rescue stranded people, officials said.

Villages in Limbdi taluka of Surendranagar district were cut off due to the flooding of approach roads, with seven people rescued by local residents from one of the villages, government officials said.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Gujarat government was doing everything it could to provide relief to people amid heavy rains.

“The government is working hard to provide all possible assistance to the people affected by the flood-like situation caused by heavy rains in Gujarat in many places. Spoke to Chief Minister @Bhupendrabjp and got briefed on the situation.

“Teams from NDRF and SDRF and local governments are busy helping people in these areas. The central and state governments stand with the people in these difficult times,” Shah tweeted.

According to SEOC data, Gujarat has received an average of 32 millimeters of rain in the past 24 hours, with Dharampur taluka in Valsad district leading the way with 234 mm.

It said 205 talukas of the state received a significant amount of rainfall, with parts of the districts of Valsad, Navsari, Junagadh, Amreli, Chhota Udepur, Ahmedabad and Surendranagar receiving between 100 and 234 mm of rain.

The Meteorological Department of India (IMD) said heavy rains are very likely until Monday morning in isolated places in South Gujarat and Saurashtra districts.

The IMD also said in its latest forecast that several parts of Gujarat are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in the next five days.
