Christmas crackers are a festive staple, with paper hats, bad jokes and often pointless gifts, but this year luxury department store Harrods is selling a chic box for a whopping £750.

The eye-watering price for just six crackers means customers pay £125 per party favour.

But the box does contain designer items, gift cards and perfume – as well as the gift of not having to laugh at terrible jokes.

Those who pull the trigger on Christmas Day will find a key ring with an Aspinal of London heart, a Wolf 1834 card holder, a Gingerlily silk eye mask, a Christofle silver card holder, a 15ml bottle of Trudon perfume or a Dr. Vranjes candle.

It also includes a £50 gift voucher to the designer brand they managed to get their hands on the treat from.

The set, also called the Luxury ‘Gilty’ Pleasures crackers, is described on the London department store’s website as ‘the main event’.

How much do the luxury cracker gifts cost to buy?

  1. Aspinal of London heart keyring – £45 + £50 voucher
  2. Wolf 1834 card holder – £59 + £50 voucher
  3. Gingerlily Silk Eye Mask – £45 + £50 voucher
  4. Christofle Silver Plated Business Card Holder – £130 + £50 voucher
  5. Trudon MÉDIE Perfume (15ml) – £39 + £50 voucher
  6. Dr. Vranjes candle – £24 + £50 voucher

It says: ‘Opening presents on Christmas morning may be the traditional highlight of the day, but this year Harrods’ luxury Christmas crackers are determined to be the main event.

‘Comprised of six unique gifts, this collection is the ultimate “Gilty” Pleasure, with two lavish card holders, an eau de perfume and vouchers galore being given to one lucky festive winner!’

But despite the high price, only one of the gifts costs more than the £125 per cracker price if you were to buy it on its own, and that’s only just as the Christofle card holder costs £130.

Aspinal of London’s heart keyring costs just £45, while you can pick up a Gingerlily eye mask for just £42.

Despite this, the cracker is closing the gap by giving each recipient a £50 voucher to spend on the designer brands.

However, the total value of the crackers’ contents is £642 – over £100 less than the £750 price.

The store also has cheaper crackers for £109, including a culinary edition with jokes, hats and a kitchen utensil for each lucky guest.

The store released a similar £750 set last year, containing Cowshed bath oil, an ST Dupont ballpoint pen, Christofle ornaments or D’Orsay perfume.

Dupoint pens cost between £250 and £1,500, so last year’s box was a bargain.
