It comes when…

He followed the chatting pair from behind before pulling out a dagger and stabbing them.

Brave Grace had thrown herself between Barnaby and the attacker in a desperate attempt to save him, but nothing could be done.

She managed to push Calocane into the road, but this caused him to turn his attention to her.

The killer was then “as uncompromisingly brutal in his attack on Grace as he was in his attack on Barnaby” and she collapsed as Barnaby tried to defend himself from the ground.

During a harrowing 999 call, a witness is heard saying: “I think they're dead” as he describes the horror scene.

Calocane was then captured on CCTV calmly walking away after stabbing the innocent couple to death.

Continuing his rampage, the killer tried to gain entry to a house through a window but was pushed away by a resident.

Undeterred, Calocane made his way to Magdala Road, where he encountered caretaker Ian, who he also fatally stabbed.

He then jumped into Ian's van and began plowing into pedestrians, injuring Sharon Miller, Marcin Gawronski and Wayne Birkett.

His rampage was finally ended when he was armed Police ducked into a residential street to arrest him.

In dramatic footage, an officer could be heard shouting: “Stay where you are, stay where you are.”

As he points a Taser at the killer, Calocane tries to protect his head.

The images show how he is led away in handcuffs by officers after his arrest.

Calocane previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

He also admitted attempted murder, with all his pleas accepted by prosecutors.

Nottingham Crown Court was told that Calocane was suffering from an 'extreme' mental illness at the time.

It also turned out that he was at the time of the murders “unlawful in general”.

An arrest warrant had been issued in September 2022 when Calocane failed to attend court for assaulting an outstanding officer.

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin, of Nottingham Police, admitted: “We should have done more to arrest him.”

The victims' families cried as their harrowing final moments were revealed court For the first time.

They also condemned the 'monstrous' triple murderer in powerful victim impact statements as they bravely stood up to Calocane.

Grace's father, Doctor Sanjoy Kumar, told the brute he was a “cold, cowardly and calculating killer”.

He also praised his daughter who “fought you heroically and bravely. Like a hero, she put herself in danger.”

The father said: “The love of our lives has been taken from us. [The] music has been taken from my ears. Our landscape has changed from vibrant colors to black and white.”

Barnaby's mother Emma Webber said her son's life had been “stolen in the most vile, unprovoked, senseless and evil way imaginable”.

She added: “I have total anger and pure hatred for you, the murderer sitting before me today.

“I do hope that what remains of your dark soul will truly feel remorse for what you have done.”

While Ian's son James Coates branded Calocane a “selfish monster who decided to go on a killing spree”.

“To have your life taken so horribly is something you will never come to terms with,” he added.

'Gone away with murder' – families react to conviction

Emma Webber, Barnaby Webber's mother, said the Assistant Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police has “blood on his hands”.

In a message addressed to Rob Griffin, the devastated mother said: “If you had just done your job properly, there's a good chance my beautiful boy would still be alive today.”

Emma added: “True justice has not been served today.

“But today our dear son, his dear friend Grace and a wonderfully kind grandfather, Ian, have been stolen from us forever and abandoned by the very system that should have protected them.”

“We as a devastated family have been let down by the shortcomings and ineffectiveness of multiple agencies.

“The CPS did not consult with us as has been reported. Instead we were hurried, rushed and railed.”

She added: “We were shocked. At no point in the previous five and a half months were we given any indication that this might turn into anything other than murder.

'We trusted our system, foolishly as it turns out. We do not dispute that the murderer is mentally unwell and has been so for a number of years.

“However, the premeditated planning, amassing of deadly weapons, hiding in the shadows and the ferocity of the attacks are from an individual who knew exactly what he was doing.

“He knew very well it was wrong, but he did it anyway.”

Meanwhile, Ian Coates' son James Coates said: “This man has made a fool of the system and got away with murder.”

He added: “My heart went out to Grace and Barnaby's family from the very beginning.

“It will continue to go out to them as we all now celebrate an anniversary every June that will never be celebrated.”

Dr. Sanjoy Kumar, Grace O'Malley-Kumar's father, said their family will “never come to terms” with her loss and the manner in which she died.

“She was a gift to us, she was a gift to the country,” he says.

Dr. Kumar says Grace's family never questioned Calocane's diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia.

But heartbroken dad said there were 'missed opportunities' to 'distract' [Calocane’s] deadly appeals” that will “replay in our minds forever.”

“We will seek answers to missed opportunities to intervene and prevent this heinous crime,” he said.

Calocane came to Britain from Guinea-Bissau with his family in 2007, when he was 16 years old.

He grew up in a devout churchgoing family in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire and was described as “bright and eager to learn”.

He was treated by a psychiatric institution health services since 2020, including treatment with antipsychotic medications.

It is understood his health deteriorated during the Covid lockdown and he complained about hearing voices telling him to kill people.

Calocane had been sliced at least four times before the attack, but “actively hid symptoms of psychosis”.

The killer also refused to take his medication and was hospitalized in 2020 after smashing doors in his apartment building.

In May 2021, Calocane occasionally visited MI5 headquarters in London to ask them to stop “controlling him”.

The prosecutor said: “A photo was taken by their systems at Thames House, which says 'please arrest me' – essentially 'stop checking me'.”

Calocane also fell one Police officer during a search of his flat, with the court told there were “missed opportunities” to change the tragic series of events.
