Hemant Soren was untraceable on Monday after Enforcement Directorate officials, who arrived at his Delhi residence for questioning in a land fraud case, failed to locate him for almost 30 hours.

Meanwhile, Hemant Soren said in a letter to the Enforcement Directorate that he will record his statement before the agency officials at his residence on Wednesday at 1 pm.

While he agreed to record his statement, the Jharkhand Chief Minister alleged that questioning him at that time was more political and aimed at disrupting the functioning of his government.

“You are well aware that the budget session of the Legislative Assembly will take place between February 2 and 29, 2024 and the undersigned will be engaged in the preparations for the same, apart from other previously scheduled official engagements,” Soren's letter to Dat said the ED office in Ranchi said.

“In these circumstances, your insistence on recording a further statement from the undersigned on or before January 31, 2024 smacks of malice and reveals your political agenda to disrupt the functioning of the state government and prevent an elected representative of the people from discharging his official duties fulfills. ” Soren's letter to the emergency department read.

The “acts are malicious and politically motivated (and) are justified. The issuance of a summons to the undersigned is completely inconvenient and a colorful exercise of the powers conferred by law,” the letter said.

The ED officials visited Soren's residence in the national capital on Monday evening to question him in connection with an alleged land scam case and said the Jharkhand Chief Minister could not be located.

Section 144 imposed in Ranchi

Meanwhile, Section 144 CrPc was imposed within 100 meters radius of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren's residence, Raj Bhavan and ED office in Ranchi.

According to sources, the ED has issued a fresh summons to Soren, asking him to be available for questioning on January 29 or January 31, failing which the agency will go to him for questioning itself. This is the ED's tenth summons to the Jharkhand chief minister.
