Harare, June 26: Logan van Beek produced an amazing display of his all-round showing in the Super Over to help the Netherlands stun the West Indies for a famous win in their Group A match of men’s ODI World Cup qualifiers at Takashinga Sports Club, here on Monday.

After a draw in which both teams made 374 in their respective 50 overs, van Beek hit 30 runs off six balls awarded to the Netherlands, hit an astonishing three fours and as many sixes off Jason Holder to set a new record for most runs scored in a Super Over of ODIs.

He then returned with the ball to knock out Johnson Charles and Holder as he gave up eight runs to complete a holdup for the Netherlands.

But what is the scenario for the West Indies to qualify for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India after this shock defeat?

As things stand, the Windies have qualified for the Super Six round after occupying third place in the Group A qualifying table. So the equation for the two-time champions is that they have to win their remaining matches against Sri Lanka, Scotland and Oman and hope no more than one team finishes with 8+ points in the final round of the qualifiers.

The format of the qualifiers is such that the top 3 teams from their respective groups will carry over their earned group stage points against the qualified teams and only the top 2 in the Super Six round will book a place in the main stage of the World Cup. Zimbabwe gets four points because they beat both the Windies and the Netherlands. The Netherlands will have two points as they beat the Caribbean side, while the West Indies will have zero points as they failed to beat both the Netherlands and Zimbabwe. So the Windies will have to come up with something special to book a ticket to India.
