A 12-year-old boy with Down syndrome and autism who went missing for two days in western Sydney has been found safe.

Hussein Al Mansoory, aged 12, was last seen walking from Auburn Memorial Park to the intersection of Station Road and Rawson Street, Auburn, at around 10.30am on Saturday.

A major search operation was launched, including the assistance of the police air wing and 100 SES volunteers who searched backyards in the area.

Police confirmed that Hussein was found safe and sound in Auburn on Monday around 12:40 p.m. He is receiving medical care.

Hussein Al Mansoory, aged 12, was last seen walking from Auburn Memorial Park to the intersection of Station Road and Rawson Street, Auburn, at around 10.30am on Saturday.

Hussein was last seen wearing only a T-shirt and diaper, and also walking barefoot.

CCTV captured Hussein, who is also non-verbal, at Auburn station on Saturday, but police say he did not board the train.

NSW Police Inspector Simon Glasser had previously said there was nothing to indicate anything sinister was behind the 12-year-old’s disappearance.

“We are very concerned, this is the highest possible risk for us,” Chief Inspector Glasser told reporters before the boy was found.

“He’s 12 years old, has special needs and has been out on his own for 48 hours now.”

He said Hussein’s family was “quite distraught.” The child was known to run away, but was usually found quickly.

“The images of him in his shirt and diaper show how vulnerable he is,” Chief Inspector Glasser said.

There were also serious fears that Hussein might have gone without water and food for those two days as temperatures rose above 30 degrees Celsius.
